    Djokovic 4-3 Nishikori*

Novak Djokovic has added the cap to his outfit as he returns to serve at the end with the sun issues. That's much more comfortable. A routine hold. He edges back in front.

It was all set up with that first service break. It set the tone. It made Federer relaxed and put Anderson under pressure. But it is the best of five so losing the first set isn't the end of the world.

Jiten: When you think of Federer on a grass court, most people think of his forehand, serve and movement. His return is so under rated, but he is able to get so many returns back and in awkward positions. Just relentless.

Kevin Anderson's slice game isn't a match for Federer's fiery return.

    Thirty-six years old, you say?

Someone tell Roger you're not supposed to have the energy to leap around the court with such energy like that... the top seed jumps like a ballet dancer to meet a volley at the net.

    Break point Federer.

Blimey there are some names in the Royal Box today. Rory McIlroy is having a chat with Rod Laver. They must both be impressed with the quality of this match so far. Nishikori crunches away a few trademark backhands.

    Centre Court hums in delight.

    Federer 4-2 Anderson*

Kevin Anderson's whole game is simplified. He doesn't complicate things and has very classical ground strokes. Technically he is very sound. He keeps aggressive.

But it is about how many service games you win and that is won by Roger Federer. It is about winning it as much and as easy as possible. It is something he does better than anybody. It is the complete package. Otherwise, Milos Raonic and John Isner would have won five Grand Slams already!

Anderson also needs Federer to leave his service game at home.

He’s only won one receiving point so far...

Oh, Roger. Stop it. That's almost cruel, making Kevin Anderson lumber towards the net with an outrageous drop shot.

    Another love-hold.

  12. Anderson serve below parpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 11 July 2018

    Jonathan Jurejko

If Kevin Anderson is to make a fist of this match he needs to up his service game.

The eighth seed has only landed 55% of his first serves, crashing down just the one ace.

Andy Murray said yesterday he thought Anderson needed to be nailing about 80% of his first serves to stand any chance of winning.

Superb winner from Kevin Anderson, leaping into a forehand and lashing it across Court One.

He can't polish off the service game though as Roger Federer pings a return back with interest, but then the Swiss undercooks and finds the net.

    Eventually Anderson holds.

Kei Nishikori can play too! What a treat we've got on Centre. Nishikori sends Novak left and right before the Serb sends up a high lob. Nishikori is forced to play the 'tweener' back through his legs and makes it! Djokovic comes into the net but Nishikori passes him on the backhand. Terrific quality early on.

Here are two break back points for Kei Nishikori.

    Federer 3-1 Anderson*

Kevin Anderson looks for a big second serve but instead dishes up his first double fault of the day. His first ace soon follows, at a frightening 133mph.

Federer clips the tape in the longest rally of the match so far, and on the 20th stroke Anderson rattles it too, but watches the ball trickle back on to his side.

The world number two scrambles to deuce.

Nishikori doesn't know how to attack his opponent. He is not going to win a lot of free points off his serve. It is an uphill battle.
