    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Nishikori is frustrated he wasn't consistent enough in that set to be a threat.

He has got to do a better job of not giving up too many loose points. He's got to be willing to move forward.

The Centre Court crowd have witnessed a treat so far between Kei Nishikori and Novak Djokovic.

This was the highlight of the opener.

Hang about... this wasn't in the script.

Suddenly it's Roger Federer who looks a bit rushed as Kevin Anderson scorches his way to 0-30, and then two break points.

    Djokovic 6-3 0-0 Nishikori*

This time Djokovic gets there. An entertaining set of tennis. The Serb's consistency is the difference.

Hmmm. Djokovic lets the two set points slip away.

He has a little rant at his box.

But now an ace. Novak waves his arms in frustration as if to say 'why couldn't I do that a moment ago?'.

    Another set point.

    *Federer 6-2 0-1 Anderson

Can Kevin Anderson get off to a better start in the second set?

Nope... he skittles a short ball into the ropes. It's a fist pump off the next point, mind, as a casual Roger Federer backhand drops harmlessly long.

The Swiss gets the better of a 16-stroke rally to bring up deuce, before Anderson nearly rips the racquet from his grasp with a real wrist-rattler.

    A good hold.

The depth of Djokovic's ground-strokes have been quite impressive so far.

    *Djokovic 5-3 Nishikori

It must be so irritating to play Djokovic in this sort of mood. He pounds away with forehands and backhands deep in the court and eventually Nishikori can't handle it any longer.

Now a vicious, spinning second serve.

Two set points to Novak Djokovic...

    *Djokovic 5-3 Nishikori

Disappointment for Kei Nishikori. He slips up on serve, bunting a routine backhand out of court on break point. Djokovic hits the front again.

He'll now serve for the set.

Roger Federer is purring and so is the Court One crowd.

Impeccable first set from the eight-time champion. One more from equalling his all-time record of 34 consecutive sets at SW19.

Joe: Even by Roger Federer’s standards that first set was a total masterclass. Set the tone from the very first point and utterly, stylishly tore Anderson apart

    Federer 6-2 0-0 Anderson*

    John Lloyd
    Former GB Davis Cup captain

The younger generation will not be able to emulate (Federer's style) because it is impossible! Anderson just has to think about his own serve. Just hold serve and stay in the set as long as possible and hopefully they will have a tie-break.

    Federer 6-2 Anderson

    John Lloyd
    Former GB Davis Cup captain

You have to stay within your comfort zone and play to your own strengths and try to accommodate the player in hand. Obviously Anderson is playing Federer - the best - but he is not yet playing to his strengths. It is probably a little bit of nerves too. He is playing Federer in the Wimbledon quarter-finals!

    *Federer 5-2 Anderson

Right then, 24 minutes in and Roger Federer is serving for the first set.

He steams a forehand winner down the line that Kevin Anderson can only shake a helpless racquet at, before watching the South African pump one long.

    Three set points.
