The expectations are going to rise on Andy Murray after this performance. He still has a bit of work to do but for a first match back it was remarkable. The first set looked like a normal first set. He made a few errors in the second and in the third he played well. It was an extraordinary performance considering he has been out for nearly a year.

  7. The 'W' word...published at 18:47 British Summer Time 19 June 2018

    Murray 6-2 6-7 (4-7) 5-7 Kyrgios

Shall I mention the 'W' word? Maybe if I whisper it quietly? Wimbledon. Okay, there I've done it.

The tournament at the All England Club gets under way on 2 July and we're all wondering about Andy Murray's chances of making it.

It looks like the Scot came through this match without any issues - apart from a bit of rustiness and fatigue. That is possibly more important than the actual result itself.

  8. 'Great to see Andy back'published at 18:45 British Summer Time 19 June 2018

    Murray 6-2 6-7 (4-7) 5-7 Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios gave Andy Murray a pat on the back before making his way off court. He then stopped for a quick word with John Inverdale.

Kyrgios said: "I was thinking how great it was to see Andy back. I asked if he is was okay at the end of the match and he was.

"It was nice to finally get a win over him I can't really count it. He came out really good and I kind of expected that. Personally I feel good. I was out for two-and-a-half months so I'm feeling good.

"Regarding my own style. I've been entertaining since I was kid. I've got bad and good things but I'm never going to change."

Meanwhile, on court one Dan Evans is about to play his first-round match against France's Adrian Mannarino after being granted a wildcard entry for the tournament.

The 28-year-old only returned in April from a year's ban for taking cocaine and in an interview on BBC Two spoke of his desire to move forward with his career.

He said: "I didn't think I'd be back at this tournament so quickly so I am thankful to the organisers. Hopefully I can repay the faith people have shown me.

"There are things that need working on but I feel close to where I was when I stopped. Now it's a new chapter so let's try to move on and hopefully good results can do that."
