I am not quite sure how to describe Serena Williams' outfit.

It looks like a kind of all-black body stocking set off with a red belt.

You have to have game to pull that off. And, of course, she does.

The American comes steaming into the net to wallop away a winner en route to another hold. The rallies are not lasting long in this one.

    Edmund 6-2 6-4 6-3 De Minaur

That's a really good win for Kyle Edmund - his second over Alex de Minaur this year.

He looked full of confidence, despite a few fluffs on serve, and his forehand looks as strong as ever.

  3. Three games, three acespublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    *Pliskova 1-2 Williams

Three games down, three aces slapped through the service box.

Serena Williams is looking in business.

Too early to start looking ahead? Probably. but we don't let that stop us.

If she wins this Serena will most likely take on Australian 17th seed Ashleigh Barty next.

    Edmund 6-2 6-4 6-3 De Minaur

Kyle Edmund is through to the second round!

Fittingly, it's the forehand that wins it for Edmund, as Alex de Minaur cracks his return long.

The two shake hands at the net, before Edmund turns to acknowledge the crowd.

    Edmund 6-2 6-4 5-3 De Minaur*

Oopsie. A shank off the top of Kyle Edmund's racquet gets Alex de Minaur on the board.

And then the Australian finds a whippy winner of his own, the ball landing perfectly on the baseline and sneaking under Edmund's attempted return.

However, Edmund controls the next rally and, courtesy of the forehand, bags himself match point...

    Oh!

Alex de Minaur's second serve is absolutely walloped by Kyle Edmund's backhand.

    That's his 28th winner - and he's 0-30 up.

  8. Serena back in Grand Slam actionpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    *Pliskova 0-1 Williams

Twenty-three-time champion Serena Williams is in Grand Slam action for the first time since, eight weeks pregnant, she beat sister Venus in the final of the 2017 Australian Open.

Now daughter Olympia is nearly nine months old.

World number 70 Kristyna Pliskova is on the opposite side of the net.

Williams with the first game bagged and ready to go in no-nonsense style.

  9. Edmund a game awaypublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    Edmund 6-2 6-4 5-3 De Minaur*

Up to the net comes Alex de Minaur and he gets himself to 15-15 with a dinky little backhand volley.

Edmund, though, wallops a forehand that De Minaur nets, and another outrageously angled backhand puts the Brit 40-15 up.

Crash goes the serve, and Edmund is a game away from victory.

  10. Sharapova survives scarepublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    Sharapova 6-1 4-6 6-3 Hogenkamp

It wasn't easy, but Maria Sharapova has made her way through to the second round at Roland Garros.

The 2014 champion fought back from a scrappy second set, with 35 winners helping her overcome Richel Hogenkamp.

An outrageously angled winner from Kyle Edmund gets this game going, before Alex de Minaur produces his own big serves out wide.

However, Edmund and his forehand come thudding their way back into the game, before De Minaur closes him out with the cross-court winner.

    Edmund 6-2 6-4 4-2 De Minaur*

Alex de Minaur's loopy forehands are met with a ferocious slap from Kyle Edmund, and it's De Minaur who fluffs his return.

Now the Brit goes down the line, De Minaur stranded at the opposite side of the baseline, and he holds to love.

    Lovely stuff.

  13. Nadal through in straight setspublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    Nadal 6-4 6-3 7-6 (11-9) Bolelli

Defending champion Rafael Nadal is safely through in three sets. He might have been 3-0 down in that third set overnight after rain set in yesterday but he's made sure he didn't have to spend too long on court today.

We all knew that would happen.

It's the first main draw singles win for Mattek-Sands since she seriously injured her knee at Wimbledon last year.

She'll face Andrea Petkovic, who beat home favourite Kristina Mladenovic yesterday, in the second round.

Up to the net comes Kyle Edmund, and a rushed Alex de Minaur whacks his forehand over the tramlines.

This is a strong game from Edmund, the only error coming when he whips a forehand wind for 30-15, and he holds as De Minaur's return finds the net.
