    Edmund 3-1 De Minaur*

The first ace of the match for Alex de Minaur, who finds his first serve to go 30-15 up.

Oh, a delightful slice from Kyle Edmund stays low, and De Minaur can't do much more than crack it long.

Long again! This time it's from the backhand, and it's 30-40...

Anyone sitting on court three wanting to know the outcome of the Rafa v Bolelli needn't grab their phone.

The mic from near Chatrier is turned up to full volume, meaning us sitting in a different court know exactly what happened on the other side of the brutalist grey stand over yonder.

Rafa won, right? Oh, it is just re-starting... maybe we still need to keep checking the BBC Sport app after all.

    Edmund 3-1 De Minaur*

Again, a backhand goes awry for Alex de Minaur, and that gives Kyle Edmund the advantage.

Woosh. Ace. Edmund holds - although he's whacked himself in the knee with his racquet in the process.

  5. Edmund saves break pointpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    *Edmund 2-1 De Minaur

Break point saved, as Alex de Minaur overcooks his backhand and it flies out of the tramlines.

    *Edmund 2-1 De Minaur

Alex de Minaur puffs out his cheeks and stares to the heavens as he sends a return of serve into the net for 15-15.

Hello, and here's break point for the Australian, as an on-the-run Edmund misses a return...

Kyle Edmund has showed plenty of aggression early on, looking confident.

Alex de Minaur's best hope of countering that is to take the ball early. He hit one superb backhand down the line when he did that. He needs more of those.

    *Edmund 2-1 De Minaur

Alex de Minaur gets himself on the board as Kyle Edmund, searching for the big winners, overcooks a forehand.

It's still a bit grey at Roland Garros. Muggy is the word, I think.

  9. Muguruza wins battle of former championspublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    Muguruza 7-6 (7-0) 6-2 Kuznetsova

There's already been a cracking match on court one this morning.

Garbine Muguruza, who won the title in 2016, took on the 2009 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in the first round.

After a tight first set and a rain interruption, Muguruza ran away with the tie-break and looks like a genuine title contender after closing out victory with two aces and 27 winners.

She'll face France's Fiona Ferro next.

    Edmund 2-0 De Minaur*

Kyle Edmund, bedecked in blue, fluffs a forehand into the net, before cracking down his first ace to move to 30-15.

Alex de Minaur whips out a down-the-line beauty to level, but the Australian errs on back-to-back forehand as Edmund holds.

  11. 'De Minaur suits Edmund's game'published at 13:49 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    *Edmund 1-0 De Minaur

    Bruno Soares
Former Australian Open doubles champion on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Alex de Minaur is a great player but the teenager suits Kyle Edmund's game. Edmund can step in, hit big shots and attack points. He has brought the pressure early on the young De Minaur.

Edmund has been aggressive, but he was also pretty patient on break point there, hitting a couple of slices to set up a winning position.

  12. Edmund breakspublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    *Edmund 1-0 De Minaur

    And there is the break!

The two get drawn into a rally and Alex de Minaur thinks he's claimed the point with a lofty forehand, but he's pulled it just over the baseline.

An early break for the Briton.

    Edmund 0-0 De Minaur*

The first two points go Kyle Edmund's way in emphatic style, a backhand winner down the line followed up by a winner into the corner of the court.

De Minaur drags it back to 30-30 with some fancy footwork, but an overcooked forehand brings up break point for Edmund...

Huge ovation for Kyle Edmund as he steps out on to court three, over which the shadow of Chatrier looms.

A white Yorkshire rose is wafted in the stuffy Parisian breeze as Beverley's finest dumps his bag on his chair.

The scene earlier at Roland Garros

Kyle Edmund would have expected to be on court around 12:00 BST had Mother Nature not decided to spit all over Paris earlier.

Play was delayed for about an hour, leaving brolly-clutching, poncho-wearing punters ducking for cover.

The walkway between Chatrier and Lenglen - Roland Garros' two main showcourts - was particularly packed with fans, while those here for a glamorous experience stayed dry in the vast hospitality areas below Lenglen.

Me? I took a virtual reality trip back into famous French tennis player and clothes designer Rene Lacoste's 1950s office. More on that later this week...

    Edmund v De Minaur

These two have already faced one another this year - and it was Kyle Edmund who came out on top.

Edmund won their second round meeting on the clay in Estoril 6-2 7-5 four weeks ago.

"I practised with him probably three or four times before I played with him in Estoril, so I knew what to expect there," said Edmund.

"The Estoril match was my only match against him. I felt like I played pretty well there."

    Edmund v De Minaur

Alex de Minaur broke through in January this year, when he reached his first Tour-level final in Sydney.

He also beat Wimbledon 2016 finalist Milos Raonic en route to the quarter-finals of the Brisbane International.

De Minaur is searching for his second Tour-level match win on clay, and to go beyond the first round at Roland Garros for the first time.
