What was I saying about Fognini looking relaxed? Now he's starting to flake.

Edmund has just won 16 points in a row by my reckoning. The Italian is spraying balls all over the place and then has a pop at the line-judge who called a foot fault against him.

    Tick tock...

The Spaniard will play 29-year-old world number 39 Lesia Tsurenko who defeated 19th seed Magdalena Rybarikova 6-2 6-4.

We all know Fabio Fognini is more combustible than your local woodyard with a pyromaniac lurking outside clutching a pack of matches.

However, he's looking pretty calm out there on Lenglen. For now.

The most animation we have seen from the Italian has been some heavy hitting on his soles with his racquet and some chuntering to a ball boy.

    Very mild by his standards...

    Edmund 3-6 2-1 Fognini*

All in the eyes. A well-disguised passing forehand winner from Edmund as Fognini began to slide the other way.

    The British number one holds.

Kyle Edmund has a sizeable height advantage over the Italian, and uses his whole wing span to fire a forehand beyond the 18th seed.

    Edmund cruises to 40-0.

    Kvitova 6-7 (6-8) Kontaveit

Over on court one, eighth seed Petra Kvitova has lost the first set against Estonia’s Annett Kontaveit.

The Czech had taken early control of the match with a first-game break but was then pegged back in the sixth game and taken to a tie-break. Can the two-time Wimbledon champion find a way back against the world number 24?

Well, that was very wild from Fognini. Like a backfoot punch low between the covers...

He responds with a superb, swerving winner to hold serve.

    Edmund 3-6 1-0 Fognini*

A little shrug and whack of a racquet against his shoe from Fognini as the Italian watches a backhand drift off target.

He swiftly moves to 40-15, though.

    Pat Cash
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 live

Fognini is one of my top three players to watch. He hits the ball incredibly hard and has a very compact serve - he is also unbelievably quick.

That's better from the British number one, getting Fabio Fognini on the run and watching the Italian lash a forehand well wide of its intended target.

And he quickly claws his way back to 30-30.
