Top seed Rafael Nadal will resume his fight to stay in the French Open on Thursday after his quarter-final against Argentina's Diego Schwartzman was called off because of rain.

The Spaniard, aiming for a record-extending 11th title at Roland Garros, trailed the 11th seed 6-3 3-5 when play was abandoned for the day.

The match was delayed for an hour before resuming at 17:28 BST in Paris.

However, further rain came and the players had to leave the court again.

That last tweet from Roland Garros (see 18:26) was encouraging, hinting that play would be back on soon.

But bad news, that's your lot for the day with the quarter-finals between Rafael Nadal v Diego Schwartzman and Marin Cilic v Juan Martin del Potro to be restarted tomorrow.

A slow clap from the Chatrier crowd, albeit a very small one, as 7:30pm arrives without a further announcement.

We had groundstaff brushing water off the court at the stage in the previous rain delay. I think the signs are ominous for further play...

Tournament organisers say there will no play before 19:30 (18:30 BST), but that's only five minutes away so it won't be long now. Hopefully.

Anonymous: Whether we like to admit it or not, us Brits love an underdog. I reckon a lot of people can't help but will on Schwartzman because we love a good shock! (Unless its Andy of course).

No play until 7:15pm local time, the players have been informed. A sunny interval is apparently winging its way to Paris, first-class delivery.

It has brightened up actually. I think I've got deja vu.

Rafa thought he was going to see the set out before heading back inside. Schwartzman thought otherwise, marching over towards the umpire after that brilliant backhand.

The umpire looked at another Roland Garros official to his left, grimaced and knowingly shook his head.

A bit like Gary Lineker towards Bobby Robson when Gazza had been booked in the 1990 World Cup semi-final. No pointing to the eye though.

Well, that return to Court Philippe-Chatrier didn't last long, but in that time the match has completely changed in Rafa Nadal's favour, you would think...

The players leave the court for the second time today. The rain looking heavier this time.
