  1. Muguruza's French Open so farpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 6 June 2018

It has been a very straight-forward route to the quarter-finals so far for Garbine Muguruza, who has not had to face a seeded player and has not dropped a set.

In fact, she has only played six full sets in four matches as Lesia Tsurenko withdrew injured early on in their last-16 tie.

    • Last 16 - beat Lesia Tsurenko (UKR) 2-0 (retired)
    • Third round - beat Samantha Stosur (AUS) 6-0 6-2
    • Second round - beat Fiona Ferro (FRA) 6-4 6-3

Time for my regular weather update... and it is pretty much the same as yesterday.

Rain and thunderstorms are forecast, meaning we're likely to see a break in play sometime today.

We thought that yesterday, and much of the past fortnight, so don't worry too much yet.

Tomasz Schafernaker, you have nothing to fear...

    Garbine Muguruza v Maria Sharapova

Garbine Mugurza has only made it past the quarter-finals of the French Open once, in 2016 but she didn't do too badly as then went on to win the whole thing.

Maria Sharapova is a two-time French Open champion and also lost in the 2013 final and at the semi-final phase in both 2007 and 2011.

She did not play in this tournament in either of the past two years because of her 15-month doping ban after taking the banned drug meldonium.

  4. Head-to-head - Halep v Kerberpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 6 June 2018

Simona Halep (ROM, 1) v Angelique Kerber (GER, 12).

    Head-to-head: Series level at 5-5.

World number one Halep, the runner-up in 2014 and 2017, survived a first-round scare to defeat America's Alison Riske but has been in cruise control ever since, happily going under the radar to make the quarter-finals. In the last-16, she dropped just three games to see off Australian Open semi-finalist Elise Mertens in under an hour.

Kerber, a former US and Australian Ooen champion and ex-number one is in her second quarter-final in Paris, six years after her first. The German left-hander had lost in the first round in the last two years. Halep won their most recent encounter, 6-3, 4-6, 9-7 in the Australian Open semi-finals in January.

  5. Two former world number ones in actionpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 6 June 2018

    Simona Halep v Angelique Kerber

Over on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, it's world number one Simona Halep against an opponent who used to hold that title, Angelique Kerber.

The German is seeded 12th at Roland Garros, but has yet to drop a set during her first four rounds of this tournament - Romania's Halep has lost just one.

A semi-final meeting with whoever comes through Sharapova-Muguruza awaits the winner.

  6. Head-to-head - Muguruza v Sharapovapublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 6 June 2018

Garbine Muguruza (ESP, 3) v Maria Sharapova (RUS, 28).

    Head-to-head: Sharapova leads 3-0.

Sharapova, the champion in 2012 and 2014, made her first quarter-finals at the majors since her return from a doping ban when she was handed a walkover out of the fourth round by an injured Serena Williams. The five-time Grand Slam champion, in her first Roland Garros since 2015, was 3-0 down in the final set of her first round clash against Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp but has been impressive since, knocking out sixth seed Karolina Pliskova in the third round.

Muguruza, the 2016 winner in Paris and reigning Wimbledon champion, has been unruffled and made the last-eight when Lesia Tsurenko retired after just two games of their last-16 clash. Sharapova beat the Spaniard in three sets at the tournament in 2014.
