What you want at the start of a potential match-winning set is to hold your first service game.

    Tremendous grit from Djokovic.

Sorry, I don't now how it was saved because the TV screens went blank.

    Ta.

    Anyway set point trois.

The Parisians don't need an invitation to start whistling and jeering. That's all part of the Roland Garros pantomime.

Djokovic is the 'villain' as he is given a time violation for taking too long to serve. That even leads to some of the crowd to applaud the decision. Harsh.

And the Serb gets the bird again when he complains to the umpire, shrugging his shoulders in disgust as he saunters back to the baseline.

Thiem goes for broke with a sliced backhand after a rally - wrong move.

    Deuce.

The fourth seed then rushes a backhand which really he should have made.

However he makes amends by passing Djoko, who had come to the net, with a forehand winner.

    Deuce.

Boos are heard as Djoko has a word with the umpire - perhaps about the earlier serve-clock warning.

Djoko pulls himself out of a spot of bother with two errors from Thiem.

But the Austrian repeats his earlier trick by smashing a forehand down the line.

    30-30.

    Djokovic 2-6 6-3 5-5 Thiem*

Thiem does not appear to be feeling the pressure.

An superb cross-court whipped forehand and another which kicks up at Djoko brings up 40-15.

    40-15.

Looks like Thiem is again preserving his energy.

Nope, he attacks Djoko who makes an error.

    40-30.

The world numero uno then smacks a beauty down the line. Thiem checks that it's good and it passes the 'Thiem Test'.

The wind is picking up again. Like BA hated flying (1980's A-Team reference) Djoko hates the wind.

"I don't like playing in no wind, fool," the Serb might say.

    15-15.

    *Djokovic 2-6 6-3 4-5 Thiem

Thiem is doing his utmost to swat away Djokovic.

A sliced drop just has enough death attached to it.

Advantage Austria. Djoko then goes wide with a forehand as Thiem just about holds.

    What. A. Point!

They're up on their feet in the Chatrier seats.

One bloke in the lower tier, presumably a Nole fan, raises his hands in the air in a 'how the heck did that happen' motion.

Then puffs his cheeks out in despair.

Djoko tests Thiem with overheads which he fails to despatch.

The 25-year-old Austrian then gets a bit of luck this time as his attempted drop kisses the top of the net and then falls into Djoko's side of the bed.

    Deuce.
