Putintseva has hit some lovely drop-shots just at the right times in this first set.

It's Putintseva who has come out on top on both occasions against Naomi Osaka, and Osaka is still yet to take a set against her opponent.

A huge stroke of luck for Putintseva as the ball bounces twice on the net for a winner for her and an attempt backhand slice from Osaka is then all over the place. Deuce.

Putintseva is utilising the slice and eventually draws an error from the Osaka forehand. The Japanese player is furious with herself as more mistakes mean she can't get the break she needs and is now again serving to save the set.

Teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime has won his first Grand Slam match, beating Vasek Pospisil 5-7 6-2 6-4 6-3.

In an all-Canadian affair on Canada Day, the 18-year-old - seeded 19th after a remarkable rise up the rankings in the last year - dropped the first set.

But Auger-Aliassime gradually began to showcase the shot-making which has seen him earmarked as a major star of the future and took the match in four sets.

This could well be going to a tie-break. The Osaka serve is so strong and she has now picked up five games, more than she did in the whole match against Putintseva in Birmingham two weeks ago. Five-five.

As world number one you should walk out with that feeling of confidence.

The last seven to 10 years in the women's game the players seem to have felt like a target is on their back and they get overwhelmed with pressure.

We'll see how Ashleigh Barty handles that tomorrow.
