    Halep 6-4 Sasnovich

This could have a bearing on the final result.

Halep has had her left ankle strapped up and is receiving a massage on her calf.

    Djokovic 6-3 2-2 Kohlschreiber*

Wow. That is an astonishing forehand drop slice on the slide from Novak Djokovic that just falls delicately over the net to almost tease Philipp Kohlschreiber into throwing a racquet at it, but the German is left swiping at thin air. Magical.

    30-30.

No dramas, the top seed moves swiftly on to crack down a racquet-wrecker of a serve to hold.

    *Djokovic 6-3 1-2 Kohlschreiber

Soft hands from the stone-faced Serb, but a gesture of apology as his drop shot tickles the net to take all the pace off it and leave Philipp Kohlschreiber stranded.

Novak Djokovic, having recovered from that earlier break, steams his way to 40-15 on a sweaty Centre Court, only to deliver a lethargic-looking double fault.

    Halep 6-4 Sasnovich

Halep takes the first set, admittedly just about having faced break point.

She had called for the trainer, so let's see what happens from here on in.

Lenny Turner: It's hard to go against a Djokovic - Federer final at the moment. Especially with Nadal's early nightmare draw.

Spanish third seed Rafael Nadal is on course to face Australian Nick Kyrgios in the second round...

  8. Djokovic breaks backpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    *Djokovic 6-3 1-2 Kohlschreiber

Well, Novak Djokovic comes firing back and tees up two quick break back points of his own.

He can't take the first, but the world number one makes no mistake with the second.

Almost identical to what happened in the first set... back to where we started in this one.

  9. Sabalenka still strugglingpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

No sign of a fightback from Aryna Sabalenka just yet. The 10th seed has just been broken again by Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova at the start of the second set, and now trails 6-2 2-1.

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

It's a similar scenario to the first set where Philipp Kohlschreiber got the early break, and now he's got to hold it.

The crowd wants to see more of a match - and now maybe we'll have one.

    Halep 5-4 Sasnovich*

    Injury?

Halep slips as she tries to slow down. The Romanian gives her ankle a rub.

She seems OK, but Sasnovich has brought the game to deuce on the Halep serve.

    Now it's advantage Sasnovich.

  12. 'Tipsy' finding it toughpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

Janko Tipsarevic knows his way around these parts better than Rufus the Hawk - this is his 14th time in the main draw - and the 35-year-old is having to use all of his experience in his first-round match against Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka.

'Tipsy' leads 6-4 6-7 (7-2) 6-2 so far, after two hours and 51 minutes on court - but Nishioka has just broken to lead 3-2 in the fourth set. They could be out there a good while longer yet.

For those not lucky enough to get a ticket for Centre Court today, Henman Hill/Murray Mound (delete as you prefer!) is the perfect place to watch Djokovic.

A HUGE roar went up as the defending champion sealed the first set. I hope nobody spilled their Pimm’s!

  14. Kohlschreiber breakspublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Djokovic 6-3 0-2 Kohlschreiber*

Thwack. Djokovic sizzles an ace down the T line for his fourth of the day. Break point number one saved. The Serb saunters forward to take a short ball on the forehand side, sizes it up... and cracks the net tape.

Philipp Kohlschreiber breaks early in the second, just like he did in the first.

  15. No more 'Miss' or 'Mrs'published at 13:56 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Halep 5-4 Sasnovich*

You might have noticed that there is no "Miss Halep" or "Miss Sasnovich" being called by the umpire - that's because umpires will no longer attach the marital status of female players to their surnames.

    So there you go.

"We’ve got to move with the times,” said Alexandra Willis, head of communications for the All England Club.

"Hopefully we surprise people with the way we do that."

Anyway, Halep is about to serve for the first set.

  16. 'The right strategy'published at 13:56 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

It's the right strategy of Philipp Kohlschreiber to keep trying to take advantage of Novak Djokovic's short second serves.

Another slip for Novak Djokovic, someone get him some studs... he still manages to get strings to ball, mind, but Philipp Kohlschreiber is firing. That's two break points for the German.
