  1. 'Honour to be a defending champion'published at 13:38 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

What's it like returning to Wimbledon as the defending champion?

I thought it was an honour. I had worked for it and I felt I had the edge because I was in my comfort zone. It played to my advantage.

    Djokovic 5-2 Kohlschreiber*

That was a proper club, and Novak Djokovic didn't like it. Leaning back, looking into the sun, batting it long off his frame. The world number one quickly recovers to make it 40-15.

He sticks a forehand into the top corner and Philipp Kohlschreiber can only coax it into the guts of the net. Djokovic holds. He's one game away from taking the first set...

  3. Rogers recovery continuespublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

Shelby Rogers is still on the comeback trail against 20th seed Anett Kontaveit, recovering from her awful start to take the second set 6-3 and level the match.

Speaking of awful starts, 10th seed Aryna Sabalenka is 5-1 down to Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova on Court 3.

    *Djokovic 4-2 Kohlschreiber

Missed one! Novak Djokovic has been pretty clinical at the net, but the top seed can't pick up a low volley and cups it into the tape.

A solid hold for Philipp Kohlschreiber to stop Djokovic's run of four games on the bounce.

  11. Canada v Canada on Court 12published at 13:29 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

An all-Canadian affair on Court 12, where 19th-seed Felix Auger-Aliassime has just started out against compatriot Vasek Pospisil, who at 29 is 11 years his senior and ranked 166 places lower.

That one is with serve in the first set at 2-1 to Pospisil while, over on Court 18, Karen Khachanov had to save a set-point in the tie-break before taking it 8-6.

  13. 'Djokovic second to none'published at 13:28 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Novak Djokovic is arguably the best ever returner in the men's game.

I know we've had a lot of great returners in the sport, but Djokovic's are second to none.

I'm no expert on this but it seems to me that Centre is playing very slow. Not much zip off the surface so far.

Nevertheless, Djokovic goes all Borg on us.

The top seed rushes into the net - like a short-haired, bandana-less version of the Swede great - to bat away Kohlschreiber in that third game.

    Djokovic 2-1 Kohlschreiber*

Lovely stuff from the world number one, guiding his opponent from one set of tramlines to the other before sauntering into the net and slamming away to make it deuce.

Big Philly K dusts himself down to work the advantage, before slapping into the net for deuce number two.

    Halep 2-1 Sasnovich*

After finding the net with numerous baseline shots, Sasnovich appears to have found her range.

The Belarus player manages to win her first service game.

The 25-year-old now needs to find a way to break back, which won't be easy if Halep is at 'peak Halep'.

  18. 'Nothing like Centre Court'published at 13:24 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

When you prepare for a match like this, there's nothing that can compare to Centre Court.

It's very different to preparing on the practice courts, so it's all about how quickly you can find your rhythm.

  19. Postpublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Djokovic 2-1 Kohlschreiber*

Nothing says British summertime television like the sound of a long rally tapping in the background while Wimbledon plays on the box. This pair get warmed up with the longest of the match so far - 18 strokes - to bring the score to 30-30 on Philipp Kohlschreiber's serve.
