Another 'pinch me please' moment for Paul Jubb.

The Hull teenager - whose rise has been nearly as quick as the Humber at tidal time - has modelled his game on Novak Djokovic.

And you'll never guess who is hitting on the very next practice court down at Aorangi? That's right... Janko Tipsarevic. With Novak of course!

No starstruck glances left though from the 19-year-old. Just a steely focus as he precisely whacks back net volleys.

  2. Brit watchpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

Four Britons are already successfully through to the second round, James Ward is two sets to one up but a break down in the fourth, and we're about to welcome two more to home hopes SW19...

Cameron Norrie has just got under way against Denis Istomin, while Katie Swan takes to court 12 to play Germany's Laura Siegemund.

The Royal Box is being graced by the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Michael of Kent today as well as some familiar faces from sport and the arts.

BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew is here with his wife Emma as well as former England opener Geoffrey Boycott, with his daughter Emma.

Roger Federer's parents Robbie and Lynette will be watching their son's bid for a ninth Wimbledon title from the posh seats.

And British actor Will Poulter, who has been in Son of Rambow, the Chronicles of Narnia, the Revenant and Bandersnatch, has brought his mum Caroline along for a lovely day out at SW19.

  5. 'Kerber was looking forward to this day'published at 13:37 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    *Maria 4-4 Kerber

    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV at Wimbledon

Angelique Kerber was really looking forward to this day. The tradition of coming out as the first match on day two as defending champion.

I think it was a surprise to most last year when she won the title.

  6. Postpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    *Maria 4-4 Kerber

Twice Angelique Kerber looked like she would run away with this opening set in the first-round match as she has twice broken the serve of Tatjana Maria.

But Maria, producing a great variety of her shots and mixing things up nicely, has twice broken back. Four-four and it is now our featured match on BBC Two.

Talking of Andy Murray and art...

The language barrier between me and these Japanese fans proved a difficult one to cross but thankfully the picture paints a few words...

    WimbledonImage source, BBC Sport

What I did manage to find out was these two have come all the way from Japan, only have tickets for the day and are waiting at the practice courts in the hope of seeing Murray.

And... the painting?! The work of their friend apparently.

Wonder what Andy’s critique would be...

  8. Kyrgios taken to tie-break in thirdpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    Kyrgios 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 6-6 Thompson

Nick Kyrgios shakes his head. He had set points in the third but finds himself having to rescue a break as Jordan Thompson fights back, after dishing up an under-arm serve... couldn't make this up.

Kyrgios whoops towards the sky - a la ultra-running great Scott Jurek - but then hands the advantage to Thompson again and this time he can't stop his mustachioed compatriot breaking back.

    Tie-break time...

Media from all corners of the globe have their own designated space on the roof of the broadcast centre here at Wimbledon, from where they can come live to your TV screens with a stunning backdrop of the courts.

The centre of the roof garden is dominated by this cameraman and his camera! That's some seriously impressive gardening skills.

  10. Ward in for the long haulpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    Ward 6-2 6-4 4-6 2-3 *Basilashvili

Britain's James Ward was two sets and a break up, but he has slowly been dragged into a dogfight by Nikoloz Basilashvili.

He is a break down in the fourth...

You can watch that one here...

  11. 'Maria's slices testing Kerber'published at 13:32 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    Maria 3-4 Kerber*

    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV at Wimbledon

Tatjana Maria is hitting slices off both wings - 84% of her shots have been slices. She's trying to keep the ball low out of Angelique Kerber's strike zone.

Kerber has had to adjust her game to counter Maria's. Kerber is having to play in parts of the court she doesn't normally see too much.

  12. Zheng breaks backpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    Barty 3-2 Zheng*

Zheng has two break points after a sublime drop which lands in court but then spins out of the reach of Barty.

Think of Judd Trump putting lots of swaz on a cueball after potting the blue in the centre right?

You can picture it now, eh?

Barty saves both but then presents Zheng with another as she finds the net with a slice.

The Aussie's next shot then goes AWOL.

    Broken.

  13. 'The best win of Dart's career'published at 13:29 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

BBC Radio 5 Live reporter at Wimbledon

The best win of Harriet Dart's career on just her second Wimbledon appearance.

A moment to celebrate for her on court 14.

That's a big scalp. She's ranked 182nd in the world, she's beaten the world number 108 and she's through to round two.

    *Barty 3-1 Zheng

Some relief for Zheng Saisai as Ash Barty finds the net.

Looking at her Shaanxi-born player's ranking trajectory - it has gone upwards ever since she became a pro in 2008.

Wait a sec! She's 25...so that means she turned pro at the age of 14!!

  17. McHale saves match point, deucepublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    *Dart 4-6 6-4 5-4 McHale

Harriet Dart brings up match point at 40-30, but a superbly crafted point, full of pace and precision knocks her back.

McHale is fighting like a ferret in a bag.

  18. Maria breaks straight back against Kerberpublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    *Maria 2-2 Kerber

Angelique Kerber's advantage over Tatjana Maria does not last long - one game in fact.

Kerber broke in the third game, but her fellow German then does the same in the very next one. Two-two on Centre Court.

Fancy watching this one? Head this way.
