But James Ward, Paul Jubb & Katie Swan go out on day two
Roger Federer wins in four sets; Rafael Nadal in three
Serena Williams beats Giulia Gatto-Monticone 6-2 7-5

Ward 6-2 6-4 4-6 4-6 6-5 Basilashvili*
James Ward breaks back! And now Nikoloz Basilashvili has to serve to stay in the tournament...
Barty 6-4 6-2 Zheng
She fails to save the second as Barty completes her win with a volley at the net.
No upset and the new world number one looked very, very comfortable.
Barty 6-4 5-2 Zheng*
Zheng gifts world number one Ashleigh Barty two match points following two errors.
The Chinese player saves the first with a smash at the net..
Maria 4-6 3-4 Kerber*
Five breaks in set one, now five breaks in set two.
Tatjana Maria has been responsible for four of those breaks, but each time, incredibly, she has then lost her serve in the very next game.
This could be a decisive one though as Angelique Kerber is now 4-3 ahead and a break in set two, two games from round two.
Kyrgios 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 7-6 (12-10) 0-6 2-1 Thompson*
Now here's a stat for you...
Nick Kyrgios won the third-set tie-break in 19 minutes, then lost the fourth set in 18 minutes.
Barty 6-4 5-2 Zheng*
Barty holds to love.
Ah well.
*Barty 6-4 4-2 Zheng
Zheng produces a beautiful backhand banana-shot from the baseline to bring up game point, before going on to hold.
That should make her feel a whole lot better - she now needs to break Barty.
About now.
Kyrgios 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 7-6 (12-10) 0-6 1-0 Thompson*
No more of these in the deciding set...

Rakesh Pradhan: We're all waiting for the Nick Kyrgios meltdown.
KL: Kyrgios is very testing.

Estella Joyce: Kader Nouni, umpiring the Kerber/Maria match, has a voice that could melt chocolate.
*Maria 4-6 3-3 Kerber
Tatjana Maria, looking to claim the break and restore parity in the second set, has had great success with the slice but this time it does not come off as her shot clips the tape and falls on her side.
But a double fault from Angelique Kerber gives Maria a second break point. A crouching backhand from Kerber looks for the baseline, but overshoots it and for the ninth time in this match someone's service game is broken.
We're back on serve and the crowd are loving it. Still Roger Federer and then Serena Williams to come so a great day to be on Centre.
Kyrgios 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 7-6 (12-10) 0-6 1-0 Thompson*
Guess who's back? It's Nick Kyrgios, tell your friends... having not won a game in the fourth set he takes the opener in the deciding fifth.
Swan 2-6 6 1-0 Siegemund*
Uh oh, GB's 100% record so far is under serious threat... Katie Swan has just lost the opening set to Germany's Laura Siegemund, while James Ward - having been two sets up - is now a break down in the fifth to Nikoloz Basilashvili.
*Barty 6-4 3-1 Zheng
This has been such a strange match because Barty has not been particularly brilliant but is comfortable, primarily because Zheng seems confused as to whether she wants to attack or sit back.
When the Chinese world number 43 does attack the net she benefits.
Like in this game.

JR: Tennis needs a character like Kyrgios. People shouldn't be hating on him.
*Kyrgios 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 7-6 (12-10) 0-6 Thompson
Jordan Thompson takes the fourth set 6-0 in 18 minutes - gift-wrapped and handed to him on a plate by Nick Kyrgios.
Maria 4-6 2-3 Kerber*
Angelique Kerber has just had a chance to disappear into the distance and grab a double break. She has break points but can't convert them, dumping a backhand into the middle of the net.
Still, she is a set and a break up so no need to worry.
*Kyrgios 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 7-6 (12-10) 0-4 Thompson
It shouldn't be a surprise to see any match involving Nick Kyrgios being completely bizarre, but it is still baffling watching the Australian when, having worked so hard to win the third set, he seems to be all but handing the fourth to Jordan Thompson.
Thompson is a double break up and Kyrgios has just hardheartedly slapped the last four returns either long or into the net.
*Barty 6-4 2-0 Zheng
Zheng faces two break points after making one of the worst challenges of the week.
The half-Tibetan makes amends by pulling the game back for deuce duel.
However, she spoils the fightback by firing long from the back.
Barty breaks. Zheng seems broken.
Norrie 3-1 Istomin*
Cameron Norrie has edged into an early lead over on court 16, the 23-year-old Brit is a break up against his Russian opponent.
However, Katie Swan is a break down in her opening match against Laura Siegemund, with the German leading 4-2.
