That helps Otte, who seems fine, take the game and it's three apiece.

Not quite the partisan atmosphere of Monday night on Centre Court yet. Maybe that’s what Murray needs: someone slightly-inebriated and feeling brave to start a booming rendition of ‘Let’s go Andy’.

Most of the noise inside Centre - after the clink of Murray’s wayward return for the game - was of surprise.

And the sighters are a bit off as a forehand is well off range and that break from Murray is instantly wiped out a few minutes later.

That earlier prediction was not to deride Otte, by the way.

The late-blooming German is clearly no mug and has been able to land a few blows with his power.

His service motion is intriguing, too. Couple of bounces, a quick tuck of the ball behind his hip, straight firm toss and then ka-pow.

Not helped him in this set though. And no idea what he was doing with that return which handed over the break.

There it is.. Murray celebrates, but Otte just confused himself there.

Still a long way to go, but the way Otte has played and the way Murray has played, it's all quite comfortable for the two-time champion.

"Come on, come on." That's the scream and the sign that Murray is a set and a break up.

Chance for Murray. Otte thinks it's long, takes a second too long to hesitate and sends a looping forehand over the baseline and that gives Murray a break point.

How will Oscar Otte be feeling? He keeps getting points off the Andy Murray serve, but not enough.

Will the German be dispirited at keep letting chances fall away, or encouraged that Murray can be got at?

Murray has far too much quality to not beat this guy in anything other than three sets.

Said it.

A couple of double faults in the same service game from Oscar Otte followed by a slashing forehand into the net and that's deuce.

There's enough coming from Oscar Otte to suggest this is not going to be straightforward from here on in for Murray.

For the third service game in a while, Otte thinks about breaking Murray's serve at 15-30 and then decides, with a bit of help from the home hero, against it.

Otte gets a bit carried away with a forehand from the baseline and away it flies for Murray to hold his serve at the start of the second.
