Huge cheers from the crowd as Emma Raducanu wins her first point on serve.

The unfazed young Briton settles in quickly, but a double fault invites some pressure as it brings Tomljanovic to deuce.

There are more photographers on the side of the court than I've seen at any other match this tournament.

Forget Djokovic or Federer, Emma Raducanu is the name on everyone's lips today.

  3. Sonego serving to stay in matchpublished at 20:04 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Federer 7-5 6-4 5-1 Sonego*

    Bam. Ace. 15-0.

  4. Federer a game awaypublished at 20:04 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Federer 7-5 6-4 5-1 Sonego*

Hmm. Federer, a little flat-footed, sends back-to-back forehands into the net to go 15-30 down.

A big first serve gets him out of trouble before an ace eventually wraps things up. One more game, and he's into the quarter-finals.

  5. 'Raducanu's attitude so impressive'published at 20:03 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

Her attitude was so impressive - it was like a switch. She just decided to enjoy the experience.

But it's one thing to do that in practice, it's totally something else to do it on your Wimbledon debut.

She can hit any shot that she wants - but it is putting that all together and holding her nerve.

    *Raducanu 0-1 Tomljanovic

A solid enough start for Ajla Tomljanovic.

The world number 75 eases into a 40-0 lead in her opening service game, and Raducanu goes long after a double fault from the Australian.

  7. Barty up next for winner...published at 20:00 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Raducanu v Tomljanovic

Win today and it's a dream match-up for Emma Raducanu in the quarter-finals.

World number one Ashleigh Barty awaits.

"She's having an incredible, incredible tournament," Barty said after beating Barbora Krejcikova earlier.

"It's amazing to see a young player like Emma absolutely grab it with both hands, play fearless tennis from what I've heard, go out and enjoy it.

"If that is the matchup, then it will be an exciting atmosphere for sure."

  8. Sonego gets on the boardpublished at 20:00 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    *Federer 7-5 6-4 4-1 Sonego

Sonego plays a tweener to a return of serve from Federer that was already drifting long, which I thoroughly approve of.

Federer gets punished for a lazy lollop towards the net, Sonego flicking an easy winner past him to hold to love and, finally, get on the board in this set.

Emma Raducanu's opponent Ajla Tomljanovic is also be making her debut at this stage of a Grand Slam.

Th 28-year-old had never previously been beyond the second round at Wimbledon but came from a set down to stun Latvian world number 34 Jelena Ostapenko 4-6 6-4 6-2.

Tomljanovic and Ostapenko traded insults in front of the umpire at the end of their third-round match, after Ostapenko called for a medical timeout at 4-0 down in the final set but Tomljanovic claimed her opponent "knew she wasn't injured".

In reply, Ostapenko accused her of being "very disrespectful".

  11. 'She's extremely intelligent on a tennis court'published at 19:59 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Raducanu v Tomljanovic

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast

Asked what had impressed her most about Raducanu:

Absolutely everything, to be honest with you. The fact that she’s embraced having a wildcard, she’s come out and played her best tennis, and with each level she’s gone up a couple of gears, and also she’s fought hard in some difficult moments.

She’s extremely intelligent on a tennis court, but she appears to have everything in terms of her game, she’s got a very complete game, compact swings, good technique, she’s aggressive, she can come forward, she’s got a beautiful serve, and she’s got personality.

  12. 'The most exciting part is that she’s going to get better.'published at 19:59 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Raducanu v Tomljanovic

Emma Raducanu's coach Matt James spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live a little earlier today.

“I met her three years ago at Wimbledon, I was a hitting partner then for the tournament and I was hitting with Nigel’s player Anna Kontaveit," he said. “He then got me on court with Emma – right place, right time it was.

“Suddenly, we were looking at me going down to do a bit of work with her, and that led into a bit of a coaching role.

“I could [see that she had something special], and you had a lot of people who had been around her and coaches who had been close to her say ‘this one’s a little bit different, she’s got something pretty special’.

“I’ve seen that from the lower-ranked tournaments up to now, and it’s a common theme with her that she is so level-headed and the attitude is fantastic.

“She actually steps up in the big moments. I almost wasn’t surprised at her level the other day, it’s how soon it has happened is probably the bigger shock.

“The most exciting part is that she’s going to get better."

  13. Raducanu having 'so much fun' at Wimbledonpublished at 19:58 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

It was fairly obvious all the way through her third round match that Emma Raducanu is enjoying every single moment of her Wimbledon journey.

Here's what she's had to say after her win against Sorana Cirstea...

Some truly daft shot-making going on on Centre Court, with Roger Federer eventually putting away a smash at the net.

Boom. Hold to 15 for Fed.

    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

What she's done has completely changed her life. Everyone knows who she is. Her ranking has gone up. There's going to be a lot of people wanting a piece of her. The expectations come very quickly and her team is going to have to take that pressure off.

The thing I was impressed with was how Emma Raducanu engaged with the crowd. She was really enjoying herself and taking it all in.

  16. 'Raducanu will be getting a lot of wildcards'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Raducanu is not going to spending a whole lot more time in the challenger events. She's going to be getting a lot of wildcards and her ranking is going to go up.

I was a litle surprised she's not playing on Centre today.

One step at a time - you want to see her last for the next 15 years.

  17. 'We know she's going to do us proud'published at 19:55 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Raducanu v Tomljanovic

Raducanu's headteacher at Newstead Wood School, Alan Blount, spoke to BBC Breakfast this morning: “We’re all super looking forward to watching Emma this afternoon, and we know she’s going to do us proud," he said.

“This was always on the cards, Emma was a rising star from the age of 11 when she joined us, and we knew she was going to achieve great things in tennis, and academically as well.

“We’ve watched her grow, throughout her time here with Newstead, and what we’re seeing on the court today is exactly what we would expect from her. She’s in the zone and she’s performing brilliantly.

“She is focused, she is determined, she is hardworking, and she’s giving this everything which we know she’s got.”

After seeing off Russia's Vitalia Diatchenko 7-6 6-0 on her Wimbledon debut, Raducanu stunned former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova 6-2 6-4 to reach the third round.

And there, on Saturday, the British wildcard looked totally unfazed during her first appearance on a show court as she beat Romania's world number 45 Sorana Cirstea 6-3 7-5.

That remarkable victory saw Raducanu become the youngest British woman to reach the Wimbledon last 16 in the Open era.

What a first week she had.
