    Is this it?

Most here hope not. What an awful way it would be for Federer’s time on Centre Court to end.

Hurkacz respectfully stands back and applauds as the eight-time champion is given a rapturous ovation on the way to locker room.

Head bowed, Federer trudges towards the canvas, finally looking up and waving to all corners before disappearing.

  2. Who next?published at 18:18 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Federer 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 0-6 Hurkacz

Next up for Hubert Hurkacz is either Italy's Matteo Berretini or Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime, who are playing their semi-final on Court One as we speak.

Considering Hurkacz has eliminated the second seed Daniil Medvedev and 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer in successive days, neither potential opponent will scare Hurkacz.

    Federer 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 0-6 Hurkacz

BBC Sport tennis commentator on BBC One

Magnifcent demolition of a great champion, Hurkacz disposes of Federer in straights and it is his moment. He has never been anywhere near this stage at a Grand Slam.

We just don't know if this is a final farewell for Federer and he certainly isn't about to hang about and discuss it.

While Hurkacz won the Miami title earlier this year, few would have predicted a deep run here.

The Polish player had only ever won four tour-level matches on grass before this year's tournament at the All England Club.

He's doubled it already and now looks set to better it.

Hubert Hurkacz needs just one more game. A place in the semi-finals is on the table.

    *Berrettini 6-3 3-3 Auger-Aliassime

A very welcome hold to love this time for Matteo Berrettini. Can he build on that and fight his way back into this second set?

He can! Berrettini gets stuck in, reaching 0-30 before Auger-Aliassime sends it long.

Three break points for the Italian.

Auger-Aliassime saves one, but a double-fault sees his good work so far in this set cancelled out. 3-3.
