Federer said after he beat Sonego that we would see how much he "had left in the tank" in the latter stages.

Well, the gauge is going south and the red light is flickering.

    Can he fill up?

Hurkacz is well and truly on his way here. Nobody saw this coming. It was supposed to be a glorious sweepthough for Federer. Hurkacz has controlled his emotions... and the match.

Centre Court sounds more like Wembley before this Federer service game. Volume: high.

"Let's go Roger, let's go!" rings around.

    Fery/Moore 6-7 (5-7) 3-6 Skupski/Krawczyk

Britons Arthur Fery and Tara Moore's Wimbledon mixed doubles dream is over after they lose in straight sets to compatriot Neal Skupski and American Desirae Krawczyk.

At 5-3 Fery was serving to stay in the match, following a break in the first game of the set, but at 30-40 the 18-year-old's serve was nonchalantly returned unanswered by Skupski.

Seventh seeds Skupski and Krawczyk will play Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer and Slovenian Andreja Klepacin the quarter-finals.

Considering the amount of times Federer has won when you didn't expect him to over the last 20 years at Wimbledon, you just can't rule out another magical fightback. This would be something special though.

Quick channel change. BBC One becomes the news, BBC Two for the unfolding story of Federer v Hurkacz.

By my amateur reckoning, Centre Court is probably the fullest it has been since the capacity was raised to 100%.

Other than a belt of green behind the Royal Box, there are only splashes of seat to see.

That is two sets and a break for Hurkacz. What has Federer got left in the tank now?

  13. Hurkacz breakspublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Federer 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 0-2 Hurkacz*

Is that the beginning of the end of Roger Federer at Wimbledon?

Hurkacz was unable to take two break points, but it's a different story on the third.

If Federer is going to keep up his hopes of a 21st Grand Slam success, he's going to have to go long and come back from two sets and a break down.

Federer pulls a forehand into the tramlines to give Hurkacz, for the third time in this six-minute game, a break point.

  15. Auger-Aliassime breakspublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Berrettini 6-3 1-2 Auger-Aliassime*

Auger-Aliassime can't take the first break point, but sets up a second opportunity with a stunning passing hit.

Berrettini digs in, but at the third time of asking the Italian nets and it's Auger-Aliassime who takes charge early in the second set.

Incredibly edgy atmosphere on Centre. The cries of support for Federer are anguished.

After every point there is a cacophony of shouts urging the Swiss on.

A chance for a Hurkacz break, he's 30-40 on the Federer serve and gets to a Federer drop shot.

But that's a wasted opportunity as the Pole could've done better with his next effort, instead of setting up a volley, which the Swiss gratefully accepts. Deuce.

  19. Break point Auger-Aliassimepublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    *Berrettini 6-3 1-1 Auger-Aliassime

Berrettini pushes Auger-Aliassime to 40-30 but it's a case of job done for the Canadian at the start of the second set.

Can Auger-Aliassime test Berrettini as he did at the end of that last set now?

The Italian is left disappointed as he misses at the net for 30-15 and a brilliant backhand past the approaching Berrettini keeps Auger-Aliassime in contention at 40-30.

Deuce, and a chance... Berrettini nets! Break point.

The roof is moving, despite it being a blue sky day at Wimbledon and someone may have hit the wrong button. It's only a minor delay, the roof remains open, and we're back.

Can Hurkacz close out this match? He's two sets up in the biggest match of his career. This could be a career-changing hour for him.
