We'll be back for all that tomorrow, but that's all from me for now.

Thanks for your company this evening!

  2. Results & overnight actionpublished at 01:11 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

In the men's draw, fifth seed Andrey Rublev, eighth seed Casper Ruud and 11th seed Diego Schwartzman have all safely joined Stefanos Tsitsipas in round two, while in the women's draw ninth seed Garbine Muguruza, 12th seed Simona Halep and 21st seed Coco Gauff are all through.

Men's second seed Daniil Medvedev and Japan's four-time major champion Naomi Osaka are among those also playing on Monday in New York.

Medvedev faces Richard Gasquet following Osaka's match against Marie Bouzkova on Arthur Ashe Stadium next.

Louis Armstrong Stadium meanwhile welcomes women's second seed Aryna Sabalenka and Nina Stojanovic before Roberto Bautista Agut and Nick Kyrgios battle for a place in round two.

  3. Djokovic chases historypublished at 01:06 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

All eyes will be on men's top seed Novak Djokovic at Flushing Meadows on day two - and indeed over the next two weeks should he make the final.

The Serbian is aiming to win a historic 21st Grand Slam men's title at the US Open in the absence of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and defending champion Dominic Thiem in New York.

Not only can he pull clear of Federer and Nadal in terms of major victories, Djokovic could also complete a rare calendar sweep of all four Grand Slams.

He gets his tournament under way against Danish player Holger Rune.

  4. New opponent for Raducanupublished at 01:02 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Emma RaducanuImage source, Getty Images

After coming through Grand Slam qualifying for the first time, British teenager Emma Raducanu was set to face American 13th seed Jennifer Brady.

But Brady - who you will remember reached the Australian Open final earlier this year - has pulled out with a knee injury.

That means 18-year-old Raducanu - now ranked 150th in the world after her exploits as a wildcard at Wimbledon - will instead face Swiss lucky loser Stefanie Voegele.

The pair will meet on Louis Armstrong Stadium - Flushing Meadows' second show-court - at about 18:00 BST tomorrow.

Of course, Raducanu would not wish any bad luck on any opponent, but facing the 128-ranked Voegele in place of Brady would appear to increase her chances of reaching the second round at Flushing Meadows.

  5. How have the Brits got on?published at 01:00 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

British men's number one Dan Evans is through to the second round of the US Open, but Heather Watson and Harriet Dart lost after Johanna Konta withdrew.

Evans, seeded 24th, appeared to struggle physically before winning 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 6-1 against Brazil's Thiago Monteiro.

However, Watson, 29, was beaten 6-1 6-4 by Slovenia's Kaja Juvan, while qualifier Dart lost 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 6-2 to France's Caroline Garcia.

American 17-year-old Coco Gauff came from a set down against Poland's Magda Linette to seal her place in the second round.

The 21st seed made it through the final two sets much more smoothly to record a 5-7 6-3 6-4 victory.

Ukrainian fifth seed Elina Svitolina won her first-round match too. She beat Canada's Rebecca Marino 6-2 6-3.

  7. 'Fantastic Tsitsipas'published at 00:54 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

If you take away all of the off-court stuff and whether or not Tsitsipas should be taking that much time away from the court after almost every set, tennis-wise he was pretty fantastic.

He kept his head. He added pace when he needed to.

To close out a match like that after four and a half hours...

  8. 'I had to make lots of sacrifices' - Tsitsipaspublished at 00:52 British Summer Time 31 August 2021

Stefanos Tsitsipas said in his on-court interview:

"It didn't come easy. Lots of sacrifices I had to make on the court to get back.

"The atmosphere was great today. It was a great day to enjoy some good quality tennis.

"I hope I'm able to keep my game at the same level that I managed today."

It was a great effort from Stefanos Tsitsipas to battle back from two sets to one down to reach the second round, holding his nerve in some difficult situations along the way.

Let's get his thoughts on the match.

Ben Grimshaw: Murray's loss isn't because he was outplayed by Tsitsipas, there were several opportunities in the final set for him to break and he'll be frustrated at that. Andy played fantastically, absolute legend and hero.

It is so fantastic to see Andy Murray playing without constraint for the first time in four or five years.

    Murray 6-2 6-7 (7-9) 6-3 3-6 4-6 Tsitsipas

Andy Murray said he needed to weigh up "if all the hard work is worth it" after his Wimbledon run was ended by Denis Shapovalov in July.

At that point, he'd played in just his second tournament in three months after a groin injury - having of course already fought back from career-threatening hip surgery in January 2019.

Today, he's disappointed to lose to the world number three at the US Open. A truly magnificent effort.

Andy Murray is no normal 34-year-old though.
