Evans wasn't helped today with the stop-start with the rain. Sometimes your muscles can cool down too much.

It looked like it was just a jarring rather than anything too serious because during the point he was still moving superbly.

Hopefully it's just a minor thing that can be worked on in the next two days so I think he will be fine.

  3. 'Third round of a Slam is exciting'published at 20:31 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Evans 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 2-6 6-3 Giron

Dan Evans on his next opponent, Alexei Popyrin, who was two sets up against Grigor Dimitrov when the 15th seed retired: "I like a lot about the match up, courts will suit him a bit more, he doesn't move so well on grass and is way more comfortable on the hard courts.

"I am looking forward to it, the third round of any Grand Slam is exciting whoever you play."

  4. 'It was a good level match'published at 20:29 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Evans 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 2-6 6-3 Giron

And here is Dan Evans: "You get the crowds gathering, it tells you it's a close match but you don't want to know that - I was struggling after Covid a bit, confidence is tough, I have done a good job to hang in and practice each day, get physically better.

"Everyone who has worked hard with me, I appreciate it.

"I started on the back foot (in the third set) and it rolled, I reset. I thought it was a good level match, especially with how I served and was aggressive."

Dan Evans started so well and it would have been difficult to keep up that level throughout a best of five.

He had a dip in the third set but he came out firing in set four and he knew he had a short window with potential rain on it's way.

He played some good tennis and he has gained some confidence. He looks physically in a much better place. A really good win. I was impressed with how focussed he was.

Dan Evans removes a bit of fluff from the court, eyeballing his opponent as he does so. He takes the point and shakes his fist in relief. Marcos Giron has fallen away dramatically in the past few minutes... 15-15.

It's still good tennis but I'm not as convinced as I was because Dan feels a little uncomfortable. He's just walking around the court a bit odd.

That feels like an important hold for Dan Evans, who walks off chantering away to the umpire about taking his time. He sits down, before bouncing back up and going through some stretches.

It just looked like Dan pulled his groin or inner thigh area. He got caught going the wrong direction. He wasn't expecting that kind of passing shot.
