    *Kyrgios 5-7 4-3 Humbert

    More headshaking from Nick Kyrgios.

Again at the electronic line call, but this time even when it went in his favour.

The Aussie seems to indicate he thought a serve from Humbert should have been down on the sheet as an ace.

Nevertheless, the French 29th seed holds to 30 and stays within one of his opponent.

  3. Postpublished at 09:55 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    *Halep 4-6 5-4 Tomljanovic

A clump of frame from Simona Halep and it seems to wrong-foot Ajla Tomljanovic, who knocks a forehand long.

    Set points, Halep.

  4. Postpublished at 09:54 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    *Halep 4-6 5-4 Tomljanovic

Oh, what a rally! Halep draws Tomljanovic in and the Australian just picks it up, but Halep is there to pop it back over the net beyond her opponent - 27 shots in all, wonderful stuff. 30-0.

  5. Postpublished at 09:52 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    *Kyrgios 5-7 3-2 Humbert

More highs and lows in Nick Kyrgios' on-court mood than a ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Shoulders slump a little as Humbert goes on to hold, even though the Aussie is still a break up.

That knee injury looks to be playing on his mind.

  6. Postpublished at 09:52 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    *Halep 4-6 5-4 Tomljanovic

Punchy stuff, as Tomljanovic fires her way to 40-0 before Halep responds with a sizzling down-the-line backhand winner. The second seed is grinding, but catches the tape at 40-30 and Tomljanovic holds.

  7. Postpublished at 09:49 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    Halep 4-6 5-3 Tomljanovic*

Good from the Australian, forcing Simona Halep deep and then slapping down a volley into the space vacated by the Romanian. Ajla Tomljanovic follows it up with a fiery ace. 30-0.

  8. Postpublished at 09:48 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    Halep 4-6 5-3 Tomljanovic*

Halep rattles to the hold and Tomljanovic will now have to serve to stay in the second set.

  9. Kyrgios breaks early in the second setpublished at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    *Kyrgios 5-7 2-1 Humbert

Ahhh isn't it great to have an atmosphere on a tennis court! The Melbourne fans go wild in a half-full John Cain Arena as Nick Kyrgios breaks early in the second set.

Odd game that. Kyrgios seemed to be struggling with a long-standing knee injury, Humbert maybe sucked in by the rope-a-dope.

Not that Kyrgios is milking it. The problem has hampered him for a while, including at last week's Murray River Open.

  10. Postpublished at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    *Halep 4-6 4-3 Tomljanovic

Simona Halep's trouble so far is she hasn't been able to back up her breaks, though a snapped string does for her in the opening point of her service game.

New racquet in hand, the second seed gets Ajla Tomljanovic shuttling across court and then wrong-foots the home player with a sweeping forehand. 15-15.

  11. Halep breakspublished at 09:44 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    *Halep 4-6 4-3 Tomljanovic

Halep takes a deep breath and stares at the line, pondering whether that Tomljanovic groundstroke was long... it wasn't. But the Romanian snaffles the break on her second opportunity as she seizes on a short ball to thunder it beyond the Australian with a forehand winner.

Her third break of the set.

    Halep 4-6 3-3 Tomljanovic*

Tomljanovic pops a forehand long and it puts Halep within touching distance of a break at 0-30.

The Australian hustles and bustles her way back to 15-30 but then leaks a backhand wide.

    Two break points.

    Kyrgios 5-7 1-1 Humbert*

While Nick Kyrgios regularly gesticulates and shakes his head before launching his serves, Ugo Humbert remains as cool as the Salford weather.

The 22-year-old Frenchman looks like he would still get ID'd buying booze in the supermarket. But he is playing here with maturity and composure.

A couple of thumping winners help him take Kyrgios to deuce but he can't grab a look at a break point.

  14. Postpublished at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    Halep 4-6 3-3 Tomljanovic*

Back-to-back holds of serve, which has been a rare sight in this one.

"Aussie, Aussie, Aussie..." is the cheer from the Melbourne locals.

    Halep 4-6 2-2 Tomljanovic*

Simona Halep has broken in the second set against Ajla Tomljanovic, who took the opener, but the Australian has a chance to break back immediately here, and does!

    Halep not impressed.

  19. Kyrgios loses first setpublished at 09:30 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    Kyrgios 5-7 Humbert

Uh oh. The set has gone south for Nick Kyrgios.

Ugo Humbert earns a couple of set points after a loose service game from the Aussie, sticking away a winner on the first opportunity after a willowy drop-shot comes his way.

Kyrgios is furious with himself. His racquet pays the price and will go to the recycling bin.
