And here is Naomi Osaka: "It felt great, I haven't played a night match in a long time, overall thank you guys for coming out, it really means a lot for all of us. I hope you enjoyed the match.

"Staying focused throughout the entire match, it's hard to play opponents like her because you never know what she is going to do or how hard she is going to hit.

"The first day I got here I was really excited, because you guys get to do stuff, unlike in America! But then I felt guilty so I stayed in my room watching Netflix."

It could have been awkward but Naomi Osaka took control from the very first point, her team are happy and fist pumping in the player box, she didn't try and overplay, hit 10 aces, didn't face a single break point. Happy days.

    *Osaka 6-2 5-3 Garcia

A little shake of the arms from Naomi Osaka as she watches a flat-footed Caroline Garcia net her backhand.

That is a shot, Osaka sending another backhand cross-court, and all Garcia can do is whip it over the baseline.

    30-0.

Ajla Tomljanovic and Simona Halep have had tight battles in their previous matches. Tomljanovic has the home support as an Aussie, has the game to make things difficult and plays with variety.

Hopefully Halep's back isn't an issue, it shouldn't be because she says it is something that only impacts her when she's cold and today it isn't.

    *Osaka 6-2 5-3 Garcia

Caroline Garcia rattles down an ace for game point, and then watches as Naomi Osaka drifts a drop shot into the net.

  10. Kyrgios sees break point slip bypublished at 09:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    *Kyrgios 4-5 Humbert

First break point of the match. And the whoops of joys from the Aussie crowd tell you it goes to Nick Kyrgios.

He gestures to them to make some noise, but they are left quiet by 29th seed Humbert whacking away a left-handed forehand winner.

The Frenchman goes on to hold, leading to some choice language from Kyrgios at the changeover.

No, we can't repeat what he said.

A casual 121mph ace comes flying off the racquet of Naomi Osaka to get her latest service game going. Wallop.

Another forehand winner takes her to 40-0 and a whippy winner wraps up a hold.

    Halep 4-6 Tomljanovic

There's a right battle developing between Ajla Tomljanovic and Simona Halep.

The Australian had a couple of set points before Halep fought back, but she was unable to close out and hold.

It allowed Tomljanovic to break and take the set to a tremendous roar from the home crowd.

  17. Postpublished at 09:11 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2021

    Osaka 6-2 3-2 Garcia*

A better quality set, this, Garcia finding her range on serve, but there's no returning a blazing forehand from Osaka that almost sends the racquet out of Garcia's hands.

And what a shot that is! An angled winner finds the very corner of the court, and we're at 30-30.

    Osaka 6-2 3-2 Garcia*

Caroline Garcia's main problem is that she can't stay with Naomi Osaka in the rallies.

Osaka rattles through a service game and love hold of her own to keep the pressure on.

A couple of players yesterday commented about how they thought the electronic line-calling was off, it can be if it hasn't been recalibrated properly - the elements can also have an effect. I am sure the cameras here, they have a bigger team who are checking them and making sure they are in position.

At the Battle of the Brits last year, it was so off! If it is not put in place correctly it does make a big difference

    *Kyrgios 3-4 Humbert

Love him or hate him, you can't drag your eyes away from Nick Kyrgios.

Our first flashpoint arrives. The Aussie enters into dialogue with umpire Marijana Veljovic over a let call.

"Reset the machine because the ball was this far above the net."

    *gestures with his hands*

"There is obviously something wrong. Reset the machine."

Veljovic smiles, assures him it is fine and urges play to continue. Still on serve.
