I think it is fair to say that Emma has lost a fair few three-set matches and it is something that everyone is aware of.

It's an incentive to stay in the match a bit longer, make a few balls and you never know.

After all the drama of the opening game (seven deuces I think it was), Emma Raducanu keeps things simple.

The Brit whips a sniping forehand on the angle to hold to love in style.

Emma Raducanu is talking to herself after every point - telling herself what to do, what to expect, what to do better.

You have also to give credit to Alison Van Uytvanck who has not been checking out of the match, especially after losing that first set.

It's almost a relief the game is finally over but it goes the way of Alison Van Uytvanck.

That was such a long one that Emma Raducanu goes for a sit down at the change of end but she's not allowed after the first game. Here we go again then.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who has just eliminated the seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz, says: "Really I don't know how I won this match.

"In the fifth set he is 5-4, serving for the match and has the new balls. I'm so happy for the win. I was struggling a bit and he got to the semi-finals last year so to beat him gives me so much confidence and I'm ready for the next one.

"This win means a lot to me. I had a lot of matches against players in the top 10 and have not won, but here on grass I've proved I can beat anyone."

Hands on hips from Carlos Alcaraz as the Spanish teenager misses a FOURTH break point of the game.

And that won't help improve his mood. The biggest cheer of the match yet as Jan-Lennard Struff sprints in and reaches across to his right to volley home a winner at the net for advantage.

But still, on we go! Huge game.

Last year's semi finalist Hubert Hurkacz has fallen at the first hurdle in this year's competition.

He has been beaten by Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the world number 37.

Hurkacz, seeded seventh, defeated both Daniil Medvedev and Roger Federer in 2021 and was serving for the match at 5-4 in the fifth set before being broken.

The Polish player also led 6-3 and 7-4 in the tie-break, but Davidovich Fokina fought back to take the victory.

The Court One crowd are really rallying behind Carlos Alcaraz now. They want that fifth-set decider.

Super serving from the young Spaniard ensures he recovers from 0-30 down to hold and, first and foremost, keep himself in front in this must-win set.

It’s greeted with a big shout from the teenager, and a celebratory vamos from somewhere behind me in the crowd. It’s heating up nicely, this.
