Andy Murray isn't the only bloke on court with a troublesome hip.

James Duckworth needed surgery in that area earlier this year, although not as serious as the resurfacing procedure which Murray had.

The Australian has not had many matches since coming back from the operation in May, playing just eight ATP matches and losing six of them.

We're so focussed on the fitness of Andy Murray and where he might be, but James Duckworth is coming back from a hip operation and he says he's not there yet.

One thing about James Duckworth's position coming out on Centre Court for the first time, you might be nervous but you got nothing to lose. The main thing for me is can he sustain this level.

Murray has allowed James to play in this fashion.

That dominant first match of the second set perhaps shakes Duckworth's confidence a little bit and he double faults for the first time before the longest rally of the match ends with Murray leading 30-15.

Duckworth recovers and there's a bit of a lengthy battle at deuce before Duckworth slams a shot into the net and Murray has the chance to break.

However, Duckworth again fights back and after bringing Murray up to the net he is able to send a forehand volley out of reach to take the game.

You don't want to have to go the distance in your early round matches, he's going to have at least another three sets to play. His serve has to be better and the second serve in big moments, he hasn't had the return when he's needed it.

The confident strut back to his chair said it all.

James Duckworth has plenty of power in those bulging shoulders and he isn't afraid to use it.

A murmur of shock around Centre Court after the Australian takes the opener.

Two hammer blows with the forehand clinching the break and sealing the set.

  16. Game and first set Kerberpublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Well. That's... emphatic.

After just 16 minutes, Angelique Kerber has taken the first set over Kristina Mladenovic, who offered very little resistance.

Kerber won 25 of the 34 points on offer.

    Kerber 4-0 Mladenovic*

Angelique Kerber is flying over on Court One.

She's a double break up on Kristina Mladenovic, having fended off three break points in her first game to keep herself in front.

Mladenovic has served four double faults, including three in the first game of the match.

  20. Duckworth breaks againpublished at 19:23 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Murray 4-5 Duckworth*

Now it is Duckworth with the chance to break again as a decent rally ends with Murray putting his return into the net.

The Australian is 40-30 up and then smashes a forehand winner down the line to put Murray in a little spot of bother.
