The Union Jack flags were wafting and there were more shouts of 'Liam' than an Oasis gig.

Broady and the crowd believed in one another when he got to 30-30 in that previous De Minaur service game, but the encouragement turns to shocked disbelief at how the Aussie turned that point in his favour.

    Incredible, incredible speed and poise.

De Minaur swung around in delight and unleashed a massive upper cut of celebration.

That could be the knockout blow for Broady.

    De Minaur 6-3 6-4 0-0 Broady*

Can Broady break back to save the second set? No...

The Brit is still in every point, but whenever he hits big to try to cause De Minaur problems, he hits out. The Australian holds to love, and gets the job done - again.

    Gauff 3-4 Anisimova*

"Come on" cries Coco Gauff as she saves a first break point but the second sees her dump a backhand into the net and she looks to the skies, suddenly a break down. Time to regroup.

    *De Minaur 6-3 5-4 Broady

Broady might still be thinking about that 0-30 point in the last game, but he doesn't show it here. His second ace of the day sees him hold... but De Minaur will serve for the second set next.

  5. Anisimova breakspublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    Gauff 3-4 Anisimova*

This first set on the Centre Court has completely flipped around. Gauff was 3-0 ahead and had chances to go 4-0 in front, but fellow American Anisimova has now won four games on the bounce.

She gets the break in the seventh game when at the net, although she couldn't finish off an overhead smash but it didn't prove costly as Gauff can only send her shot halfway up the net.

Anisimova two service holds away from winning set number one.

That's amazing from Alex De Minaur, that extra hustle at 0-30 and all of a sudden the momentum flips back to his end and the confidence drains out of Liam Broady.

    De Minaur 6-3 5-3 Broady*

Wow... just wow. John McEnroe has been praising De Minaur's court coverage and speed but this is another level.

At 0-30, the Australian scrambles to reach a drop shot that flicks off the net and barely bounces, before getting up to reach what should have been a Broady winner.

Instead of 0-40, that's 15-30... and it is soon another hold for the Australian.

Hang about... here's another sniff for Broady. De Minaur goes long and is 0-30.

  9. Anisimova saves break pointpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    *Gauff 3-3 Anisimova

Amanda Anisimova was 3-0 down but she's now won three games in a row, saving a break point in the sixth game to do so.

    Gauff 3-2 Anisimova*

    Alan Jewell

Coco Gauff's annoyance at herself was clear as she sent a forehand floating long to hand Amanda Anisimova a first break point of the match. That one was saved but she looks thoroughly fed up when a double fault gets us back on serve.

The winner count is 6-4 in Gauff's favour while the unforced error tally is 5-12 but the 18-year-old hasn't made the most of her early dominace, having been 40-0 up in that game.

    John McEnroe

Good effort by Liam Broady here to get this hold and keep hope alive for this set. He's definitely giving De Minaur something to think about.

Broady is hanging on here - just about. He digs deep to save three break points from 0-40 and is still alive in this second set, for now at least.

Alex de Minaur knows how to suck the life out of an opponent and a crowd.

For the first time in the match, Broady gets to 30-30 on the Aussie's serve and it raises the hopes of the Brits.

But De Minaur locks in and forces errors from his opponent.

The energy goes quicker than the air from a popped balloon.

  14. Anisimova breaks backpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    Gauff 3-2 Anisimova*

Amanda Anisimova is back on serve in the first set, gifted the break thanks to a Coco Gauff double fault.

    De Minaur 6-3 4-2 Broady*

De Minaur has been gliding through his service games so far but it is a different story this time, as Broady picks up the pace - a big forehand into the corner gets him to 30-all.

That's a first sniff of a break for the Brit, and the crowd can smell it too... but that's as good as it gets for Broady, as two big serves see De Minaur resume control.

  16. Anisimova saves two break pointspublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    *Gauff 3-1 Anisimova

Amanda Anisimova gets her first game on the board, and had to dig deep to do so as she saved two break points.

On the first of them Coco Gauff returned into the net with a forehand before she played a loose drop shot on the second which Anisimova smashed away.

However, Anisimova's unforced error total is already at 11 in only four games so plenty to tighten up on.

  17. Watson/Dart 6-4 Dzalamidze/Krunicpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

Heather Watson's busy and brilliant Wimbledon continues.

She has taken the first set alongside British compatriot Harriet Dart in their women's doubles match against Natela Dzalamidze and Aleksandra Krunic.

Surprisingly it is not jam-packed inside Court One. Quite a few chunks of green cushioned foam visible, especially around the middle section.

Reasons why? Hard to say exactly but it could be a mixture of ticket-holders playing the long game with some exciting matches coming up, needing to fuel up at lunch and late pull-outs because of Covid or other commitments.

Over the first few days the attendance was down 11% compared with 2019, although Wimbledon organisers said that was down to fewer people coming for grounds passes rather than a lower number of ticket-holders.

  19. Broady broken againpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    *De Minaur 6-3 3-2 Broady

More trouble for Broady at 15-30, after he goes for a big forehand but sees it fly long... and again at 30-40 as De Minaur flies into the net to put away a sweet backhand volley.

Broady tries something different, with a serve-volley on the next point, and he has De Minaur in trouble... back-pedalling on his backhand... or at least it seemed that way - he finds the shot of the match so far, a superb lob into the corner that beats Broady all ends up.

That's the first break of the second set, and it's gone to the Australian.

Quick fist-pump and and purposeful stride back to her chair from Coco Gauff after she returned Amanda Anisimova's return with interest to back up her break. The 18-year-old is looking confident and all business.
