    De Minaur 6-3 2-2 Broady*

Whenever a Broady return lands short, De Minaur leaps on to it... and practically throws himself at the ball to hit a winner.

The Australian bangs down another ace here - he has eight in total - and is still very comfortable on his serve, while Broady often seems to have to fight hard to hold his.

    *De Minaur 6-3 1-2 Broady

More fire fighting needed by Broady, who has to save another break point thanks to a big serve followed by a dainty drop shot to take us back to deuce.

You sense this is a key game for the Brit and he takes it, eventually, with a stonking serve down the middle. Phew... time for him to take a swig of squash and a bit of banana.

  5. Gauff gets the breakpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    *Gauff 2-0 Anisimova

It's Amanda Anisimova's first match on Centre Court - and she couldn't have made a worse start. She sees her serve broken at the very first opportunity and Coco Gauff has raced into a 2-0 lead.

    De Minaur 6-3 1-1 Broady*

Trouble for Broady here at 15-40 after some cracking De Minaur returns.

He saves one with a big serve down the T and then repeats the trick with his first ace of the day to get back to deuce.

The Court One crowd breathe again.

    Gauff 1-0 Anisimova*

    Alan Jewell

The Centre Court hum was at a good level in anticipation of what could be a cracking match. Like Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova was a precocious teenage talent but she has been derailed in recent years by injuries and the sudden death of her father (who was also her coach) in 2019.

Anisimova is still only 20 and her ranking is on the rise again. She ended 2021 at 78 but is seeded 20th here. This year, she reached the last 16 at both the Australian Open, where she lost to eventual champion Ashleigh Barty, and the French Open. She has a very good chance of making it three in a row at the Slams today.

    De Minaur 6-3 1-1 Broady*

Erm, well kind of. Broady picks up two points off the De Minaur serve this time, which is an improvement when you consider he only managed that three times in total in the first set... but he is always behind in the game and the Australian is not exactly feeling the pressure.

    *De Minaur 6-3 0-1 Broady

Broady starts the second set on the attack, just as John McEnroe requested... it works too. Now, can he do anything with the De Minaur serve?

I'd like to see Liam Broady bring Alex De Minaur in on his service game, bring him in on some drop shots, he's a good finesse player, don't just hit it, make each shot meaningful.

And dare I say on the odd occasion, come in on a serve or two.

I'd like to see a willingness to make De Minaur do something.

  12. Game and first set De Minaurpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    De Minaur 6-3 Broady*

De Minaur is still finding the corners and he makes no mistake here, working the Brit around the court and holding to love. That's the first set in the bag for the Australian, in 27 minutes.

He hit 12 winners, compared to one by Broady, who has been pretty cautious so far. Will that change now the Brit is behind?

  13. Which young American will move into the last 16?published at 13:36 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    Gauff v Anisimova

First up on Centre Court today is the third-round match up between two talented young Americans.

Coco Gauff, the 18-year-old 11th seed, takes on 20th seed Amanda Anismova, who is two years older than her opponent.

For Anisimova, it's her first experience of the Centre Court. Gauff reached the fourth round in both 2019 and 2021, while Anisimova had never made this phase of the competition before.

    *De Minaur 5-3 Broady

Broady needs a solid service game here and he finds exactly that, holding to love and giving himself a yell of encouragement at the end of it.

De Minaur will serve for the set next though.

  15. Tan's lucky escape...published at 13:32 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

It's the update you've all been waiting for.

Yes, that's right. The latest twist in the saga between Tami Korpatsch and Harmony Tan has landed.

Need a refresh of where we were up to? Well, you may recall Tan upset her planned doubles partner after she withdrew from the competition with a thigh injury following victory over Serena Williams.

It seemed the pair had patched things up until, after Tan returned to win her second singles match, Korpatsch reignited the saga with an Instagram post on congratulating Tan, adding "I'm glad your leg injury got better so quickly".

It now appears Tan may have had a lucky escape.

Korpatsch has updated her followers today with an announcement that she has tested positive for Covid-19, and subsequently withdrawn from her next tournament, on the day Tan reached the fourth round.

    De Minaur 5-2 Broady*

Broady can hold his own when he gets into a point but it is not happening often enough at the moment. De Minaur seems to have come to life and is finding some extra zing with his groundstrokes. The Australian is on top right now and has the first set in his sights.

Olympic diving champion Tom Daley is another of the celebrity guests in the Royal Box today, and he seemed pretty pumped when he spoke to the BBC earlier.

"There’s so much history and prestige at Wimbledon," Daley said. "I’ve been once before and it was the best day, so I’m super excited.

"Wimbledon does really signify the beginning of summer, and the weather’s been nice today, so that’s always a plus."

Time stood still for a moment as that De Minaur return clipped the net and looped to safety for 0-30.

That saw the Broady serve come under serious pressure for the first time.

Supportive roars of 'Come on Liam!' tried to boost the Brit, but the pressure told.

Broady cocked his head and sighed, while those around him groaned.

    *De Minaur 4-2 Broady

    Todd Woodbridge
Former Wimbledon doubles winner on BBC TV

One of Alex De Minaur's strengths is that he goes into that lockdown mode and refuses to miss he just moves across the baseline and returns everything.

He's very good at that, he's one of the best in the world at it. That's a bit worrying for Broady because where is he going to find another level from.

  20. Broady is brokenpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 2 July 2022

    *De Minaur 4-2 Broady

Broady is still going after the De Minaur forehand but his first serve goes missing and the Brit finds himself 0-30 down.

Make that 0-40 after he draws Broady into the net... and a first break of the match soon follows when he whips a cross-court forehand into the corner.

Broady gets a racquet on it, but cannot keep the point alive.
