When Andy Murray trudged out of the Melbourne Arena - now the John Cain Arena - three years ago, the DJ hit play on Joe Esposito's 'You're The Best'.

You'll know the song, especially if you're over 30. Or younger and a cult classic aficionado.

It is the one used for the montage at the end of The Karate Kid, the classic 1984 film, just after the protagonist Daniel LaRusso defies logic, defies expectation and defies injury to beat his opponent.

By chance or by choice, it felt apt.

In the end, Murray could not finish with a final flurry like LaRusso as he courageously lost to Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut.

But the story wasn't over. Murray has fought back from the hip surgery which he thought would end his career. Now the Scot is back on Melbourne Park's third show-court for a much-anticipated sequel.

    Murray v Basilashvili

Three years ago, Andy Murray feared he had played the final match of his career.

His five-set thriller against Robert Bautista Agut, which the Spaniard won, was an emotional, raucuous affair on the Melbourne Arena.

Murray said at the time he would "do everything he could to see you again" and underwent career-saving hip surgery later in 2019.

He then reached the final in Sydney in his first trip to Australia for three years.

It's always fun unexpected with Andy Murray.
