    Evans 7-6 (7-3) Cerundolo

Dan Evans hits a fine backhand winner and he's taken the opening three points in the tie-break.

Francisco Cerundolo can't return Evans' serve and it's 4-0. Huge chance now to clinch the opening set, but Cerundolo battles back to 4-3 with a couple of impeccably measured forehand winners.

    Fourteen winners for Cerundolo now.

Evans serves at 4-3 and takes the point, prompting a cry of 'COME ON!'

Another wild return from Cerundolo takes Evans to the brink and he converts with a passing backhand!

    Thompson 2-5 Nadal*

There's certainly no sign of Nadal's foot causing him any issues so far today. Sublime movement from the Spaniard, charging forward and lobbing Thompson, who can't get the ball back in play. The Australian does enough though, holding to make Nadal serve for the set.

A very irked Cam Norrie gestures towards his box.

It looked as though he was saying that he'd lost his focus at the most inpportune moment.

    Norrie 7-5 Guinard*

A game point comes and goes for Manuel Guinard, who looks to have had plenty taken out of him in that first set.

He goes down the line with Norrie stranded on the opposite side of the tramlines, but misses, and it's an early break point to Norrie.

  13. Evans taken to first-set tie-breakpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    Evans 6-6 Cerundolo*

Dan Evans holds again and, for the second time, a break of Francisco Cerundolo's serve will deliver the opening set for the British 29th seed.

The Argentine produces a precise backhand down the line to go 30-0 up and quickly moves to 40-0.

Another strong serve and it'll be tiebreak time. Ooooh, a double fault. A glimmer of hope for Evans? No. Cerundolo takes it and we're into a first-set tie-break.

A tight clench of the fist and steely stare towards his box is a classic from the Cam Norrie school of celebrating.

No major emotion from the British number one, despite having to dig deep in that opening set.

He’s somewhat pierced the balloon of French hope and will be hoping to pop it completely in a fast start to the second set.

    Thompson 1-4 Nadal*

Rafael Nadal is hitting his stride and Jordan Thompson is unable to live with the Spaniard right now.

  18. Set points Norriepublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

Endurance is one of Cam Norrie’s biggest strengths. The boy can run all day.

These long points are going to affect Manuel Guinard more - in body and mind.

The French wildcard is puffing and panting heavily every time he comes over for his towel.

While it is close now I can’t imagine Guinard has the gas to complete a three/four/five-set journey.

  20. Postpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    Evans 5-5 Cerundolo*

Dan Evans and Francisco Cerundolo exchange hold-to-love service games, with a couple of winners doing the job for Evans as he takes a 5-4 lead.

Break the Argentine here and the opening set will be his. He's only won one of eight break points so far, but a double fault from Cerundolo opens the door for Evans at 15-30.

Cerundolo quickly slams it shut, though, and levels the match at 5-5.
