    *Swiatek 3-1 Tsurenko

A much better game from Lesia Tsurenko there. A fine winner helps the Ukrainian to three successive points and, after a slight blip, she gets over the line. That will help the confidence levels somewhat.

  3. Anisimova comes through to holdpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    Anisimova 7-5 3-3 Osaka*

Amanda Anisimova finds herself at deuce as her backhand is put under pressure by Naomi Osaka.

A beauty of a forehand gives her the advantage before she produces a stonker of an ace to get herself out of a sticky situation.

    Clutch.

Like most things Parisian, the new Court Philippe Chatrier oozes style and bourgeois.

What a place to watch tennis. With the roof closed and lights on, the tranquil atmosphere this morning feels like you could be in a gallery.

Seems like Swiatek is certainly planning to put on an exhibition judging by these opening few games.

    Swiatek 3-0 Tsurenko*

Swiatek steps up and plants a volley for a seventh successive point, but Tsurenko sends a sweet backhand down the line to end the streak.

That's all the Ukrainian can hope for on the Pole's serve. Early stages, but Swiatek is on a mission here.

Not bad a view, eh? The commute to Roland Garros is pleasant one, even under slate grey skies and blobs of rain dripping onto your bonce.

However... the weather could put a dampener, ahem, on an action-packed day two.

Rain is forecast all day, meaning the covers on the outside courts - where all five British hopes are playing today - could be going on and off with the speed and regularity of glitzy garms at Paris fashion week.

Better news is that Court Philippe Chatrier now has a roof. So all the action on the showcourt will be unaffected.

    *Swiatek 2-0 Tsurenko

Absolutely dominant stuff from Iga Swiatek at the start of this match.

A break to love for the world number one, sealed with a fizzing cross-court forehand winner.

  8. Andreescu loses first setpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    * Andreescu 3-6 1-2 Bonaventure

Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu is in a bit of trouble - the Canadian has lost the opening set 6-3 to Belgium's Ysaline Bonaventure.

Andreescu, who won the 2019 title in New York as a 19-year-old, has had some injury problems since then but had reached the Italian Open quarter-finals in the build-up to Roland Garros this month.

    No hanging about.

Iga Swiatek hits a couple of winners in a confident opening game. Lesia Tsurenko blinked and it was over.

  10. Osaka saves break point to holdpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    *Anisimova 7-5 1-2 Osaka

This was always going to be a difficult match-up for Naomi Osaka, who had her Roland Garros preparation disrupted by an Achilles injury.

Her serve hasn't been at its best - she served four double faults in the opening set, including one that handed a crucial break over to Amanda Anisimova - and one in the second set has handed a break point over to the American.

However, a handy one-two punch from Osaka gets her back on level terms, before a long strike from Anisimova wraps up the game for Osaka,

  11. Dart in debutpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    Trevisan 6-0 3-0 Dart*

Harriet Dart is playing her first ever main draw match at Roland Garros today, having fallen in the third qualifying round last year.

The 25-year-old broke into the top 100 for the first time earlier this year after reaching the fourth round at Indian Wells.

She's facing Italian Martina Trevisan on court 12, but so far Dart has had a tough time of it, losing the first set to the former French Open quarter-finalist - and down an early break in the second set.

  13. Swiatek clear favourite for second triumphpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    Swiatek v Tsurenko

World number one Iga Swiatek appears unstoppable right now.

The Polish 20-year-old is a clear favourite for a second French Open title after winning five consecutive titles in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, Stuttgart and Rome.

She begins her campaign at Roland Garros - where she won her maiden Grand Slam as a teenager in 2020 - on a 28-match winning streak.

"I think the key is going to be just doing the same stuff I did before," she told WTA Insider.

"Right now, at these tournaments, I already faced a lot of pressure. So hopefully the different kind of pressure that we have at a Grand Slam isn't going to overwhelm me."

  16. Anisimova leading Osakapublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 23 May 2022

    Anisimova 7-5 1-1 Osaka*

Four-time Slam champion Naomi Osaka is facing a tricky first-round encounter against Amanda Anisimova.

Anisimova ended Osaka's Australian Open title defence in January and reached the quarter-finals in two clay-court events in the build-up to Roland Garros.

A high-quality first set went Anisimova's way, with the American producing a dominant service game to close it out.

She's just produced another to keep it on serve in the second.
