Nadal with a forehand that rapidly zooms into the net, 2-2.
Zverev, at the net after charging forward, goes long and that's a mini-break for Nadal, who leads 2-1 with two serves to come.
Brilliant Zverev serve, Nadal, stretching behind him, can't return it, 1-1.
Zverev flicks a forehand from the baseline long. It gets an angry glare from the German, but it's 1-0 Nadal.

Feels like a fiesta in Paris. As a brass horn blasts out a jaunty number which could accompany a flamenco dance, about 30-odd Spanish flags are wafted in the manner of a matador.
One says 'Vamos Rafa, te amo' - I love you in Spanish, with another simply saying '20 + 1'.
That flag must have been brought last year and recycled/updated with the help of a can of spray paint.

It's going to be interesting to see how brave Zverev can be in the tie-break.
Nadal 6-6 Zverev
Tie-break time. We've had 73 minutes already in just the opening set. In that 12th game Alexander Zverev produced an ace and a double fault, but gets it done. 6-6. Who's going to sneak the first set?

Nadal has just had a soft warning from the umpire about the time he is taking between points.
Nadal 6-5 Zverev*
We're now up to the 68 minute mark and the crowd are certainly getting their money's worth, brilliant stuff. Zverev saved three set points in the 10th game, Nadal then saves two break points in the 11th.
Once again Zverev will now have to serve to save the opening set, so can he force a tie-break?
*Nadal 5-5 Zverev
Some brilliant angled forehands from Zverev brings about a second chance of a break. He can't take it though as a Nadal volley is dropped in short and Zverev, on the stretch, can't do enough to get it back in play.

Over an hour on the clock already. Marin Cilic and Casper Ruud might as well have a snooze in the hotel.
*Nadal 5-5 Zverev
Nadal's serve saves the day and fends off the break point. Deuce.
*Nadal 5-5 Zverev
Zverev blasts an angled forehand and it's superb, clipping the line to give him a break point.
He'll be serving for the set if he wins the next point, 30-40.
*Nadal 5-5 Zverev
Zverev has just saved three set points and is now 0-30 on the Nadal serve after an 18-stroke rally.
Cancel your plans for the rest of the day.

Nadal is so far back behind the baseline waiting for Zverev's serve, he's almost in Spain.

Zverev has hung on. I'm not quite sure how. He saved three set points and negotiated seven deuces.
*Nadal 5-5 Zverev
Great drama in Paris and a huge scream from Zverev as he has to dig so deep to fend out three set points and eventually, after 12 minutes of drama and brilliant action, holds his serve.
We're on serve, just about. 5-5.
What a game this is. Nearly 12 minutes and counting and deuce number seven. Zverev has a chance to wrap up the game but, at close range, can only divert a volley into the net.
Nadal then gets to one and has a chance with the two-handed backhand and with Zverev in danger, but flicks it out.

It is the pressure of facing Nadal. You feel like you have to do more and go for that little bit extra.
