Superb serving under pressure once more from Zverev and that leads to a sweeping forehand winner in an 11-minute plus game. Deuce six, Nadal has wasted three chances to wrap this set up.
The 128mph first serve from Zverev, just when he needs it leads to the German punching away a volley to save a second set point.
But just after the good, comes the bad, Zverev goes long and Nadal now has a third chance. He hasn't taken the first two. What now?
Another double fault from Zverev, his second in this game, takes us back to deuce for a fourth time.
But he then volleys long when at the net and that gives Nadal a second set point.

This set has just turned around so quickly. It has come from nowhere.
Nadal, standing miles behind the baseline, gets to the wide Zverev serve but can only loop it into the bottom of the net. Deuce, set point saved.
Set point Nadal.

Rain continues to patter on the Chatrier roof, by the way. That soothing sound which accompanies rainy days sat on the sofa.
Any match that starts with the roof closed continues that way until a conclusion.
That might change for the second semi-final if things brighten up in Paris.
If the wet weather stops, the referee can open the roof at the end of this match and allow Marin Cilic and Casper Ruud to play outdoors.
Nadal 5-4 Zverev*
A leaping smash from Zverev after some serve-volleying gives Zverev game point but he can't take it as another shot when jumping high flies wide. Deuce.
A double fault from Zverev, his second of the match, and we're at deuce, Nadal again two points from the set.

Rafael Nadal is two points away from the set as a cross-court forehand from Zverev drifts wide, 30-30.

That's three games on the bounce for Rafael Nadal as his second ace of the match helps him move into the lead for the first time today.

Massive cheer when Zverev double faults. Our aforementioned German friends respond by telling the crowd to be quiet when Nadal goes into the net.
And then... wow. That wild short forehand by Zverev is greeted by disbelieving cheers.
Don't think I've ever seen anything like that. Nearly hit Nadal's chair without a bounce.
Zverev loses grip on his racquet and it ends up 10 feet behind him. So he goes over and gives it a wipe with the towel.
But it did not help him hold the game.

How many times have we said this before? Almost from nowhere, Rafa Nadal breaks back.
*Nadal 4-4 Zverev
We're back on serve after 38 minutes of enthralling, powerful, delightful tennis. We hoped and expected it to be good and it's living up to the promise so far.

That was a tight point from Zverev and Nadal is furious with himself. You don't often see a lot of emotion from him.

That's a horrible shank from Zverev! His racquet fell out of his hand and he's shanked it so badly that would have been called out on a doubles court.
A superb rally of 19 brutal strokes, before Nadal sweeps a forehand into the net.
But what has happened there? Zverev, at the net, looks to put away a volley, the racquet slips out of his hand, the ball flies out and Nadal has a second chance for a break. Advantage Nadal.

The double fault for Zverev does tend to creep in when the pressure increases.

Not all Spaniards or Nadal supporters inside the King of Clay's castle.
Two German fans are sat in front of the media box and enthusiastically jumping up every time Zverev wins a point.
Lots of movement so far from the pair, who are wearing their three-stripe branded Germany football shirts - 2014 World Cup era.
What a time to produce a double fault and that gifts Nadal his first break point of the afternoon.
