I think if I was Swiatek I would skip playing Berlin. This is huge - this is her second Roland Garros title.

We saw with Madrid she knew when to step off and get some rest and she can still play and get some grass before Wimbledon.

  5. 'See you next year!'published at 15:45 British Summer Time 4 June 2022

    Swiatek 6-1 6-3 Gauff

More from French Open champion Iga Swiatek: "Two years ago winning this title was something amazing that I wouldn't have expected ever. This time I worked hard to get here.

"Thank you all the fans for coming, all the Polish flags I can see over there. It's good to have you and lean on you in my toughest moments. It's always a great atmosphere here and I always have extra motivation every time I come here.

"I also wanted to say something to Ukraine, to stay strong, because the war is still there. Since it started I hoping when I do the next [tournament] the situation will be better but I will still have hope.

"Thank you guys and see you next year."

And here is Iga Swiatek: "First I want to congratulate you [Coco Gauff] because you are doing an amazing job. You are progressing all the time. You will find it and you will be there I am pretty sure of that.

"I want to thank my team, you guys, I mean, oh my god, without you I wouldn't be here, I'm sure of that. I'm glad every piece has come together and we can do this. We deserve to be here. Thanks for your full support all the time no matter what.

"Also to my Dad, I wouldn't be here without him so I have to thank him for everything. Everyone who is in my box, thank you all."

Sulaimon Adelekan: It's Coco Gauff's first Grand Slam final and she lost to the best and currently the most in-form player in world tennis. So no shame but positives.

Farai Diza: Good to see goal scoring machine Robert Lewandowski in the crowd supporting his Polish compatriot Swiatek.

Lee Fergusson: Iga Swiatek is just phenomenal...35 wins in a row and now she has her second grand slam and Roland Garros title!!

Here's what Coco Gauff had to say: "This is a first time for me so I'll try to get through this.

"Congratulations Iga, what you have done these past few months has been amazing. Hopefully we can play many finals and I can get a win on you one of these days.

"I'd like to thank my team. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get this one today. But thank you guys for always supporting me. Hopefully this is the first final of many. I appreciate you guys a lot, you have helped me through so much this year.

"Thank you to you guys [in the crowd] who supported me even when I was down. Even when I was down match points you guys cheered me on and that means a lot, so truly, thank you."

    Swiatek 6-1 6-3 Gauff

Coco Gauff will receive her trophy first.

She's had a superb two weeks in Paris and will rise to 13 in the rankings as a result.

She still looks very tearful but I thought she performed brilliantly today. Never got down on herself or overly frustrated.

She'll win a Slam in the future.
