Murray cuffs a forehand long and wide with a huge slice of unoccupied court to aim at.

    30-40 and break point Berrettini...

I'm not surprised Berrettini's box are pleased with that last service game.

Andy was throwing everything but the kitchen sink at him trying to get all the balls back in play, but Berrettini was just steamrolling with that forehand.

  5. Murray and Skupski in actionpublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 2 September 2022

    Men's and mixed doubles

More Brits in doubles action now - Jamie Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares are in the early stages of their men's doubles second-round match against Monaco's Hugo Nys and Poland's Jan Zielinski. Murray and Soares trail 2-1 on serve in the first set.

In the first round of the mixed, Neal Skupski and American Desirae Krawczyk are playing Americans Chris Eubanks and Alycia Parks - and it's also 2-1 on serve to Eubanks and Parks.

    *Murray 4-6 4-6 2-2 Berrettini

You have got to be pretty sure of yourself to continue your conversation with a fellow spectator after the umpire announces over the tannoy that the players are waiting for you and Matteo Berrettini shoots daggers at your back from the court floor.

Guess that is the New York chutzpah they like to bang on about...

Anyway, the bearded fellow in the pork pie hat finally feels ready to settle into his seat and Berrettini takes out his frustration on the fuzz, whacking his way through a service game to love.

  7. 'Murray has done well'published at 19:17 British Summer Time 2 September 2022

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

There was a lot going on there, to try and keep his focus, his shoulder was cold after that long break.

He's done well to dig himself out of that hole, has Murray.

  9. Draper holds but still trails by a breakpublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 2 September 2022

Jack Draper is on the board.

A pair of massive forehands put him on the front foot and he wraps up a hold to 15 with a huge ace down the T.

He's still down by a break, mind, but he's stopped Karen Khachanov from racing away with the opening set.

Serving from that end of Ashe where Murray is now, sunbeams streaming into his face, is as difficult around this time as it can be all day.

Murray is already struggling on his first serve as it is.

He has landed just 30 of his 65 first serves.

A slightly sticky start for Jack Draper.

He had worked his way to 40-15 but a fluffed drop shot and a double fault meant he found himself at deuce.

He had game point but a pair of forehand errors handed Karen Khachanov a break point, and a snatched shot into the net tape gifts the early initiative to the 27th seed.

Before his opening match here, Andy Murray was asked to reminisce about his 2012 triumph.

The Scot recalled his feelings before and after finally landing what had been an elusive major title.

"It was obviously, at the time, a huge moment for me. I’d been put under a lot of pressure to try and achieve that," he said.

"A lot of what I’d achieved in my career up to that point it felt, to me anyway, kind of irrelevant because of the questions I’d continued to get asked about winning Slams. Am I good enough? Am I fit enough? Am I mentally strong enough? Like lots and lots of questions over a period of time.

"It was nice to finally be able to move on from that because it’s not particularly helpful."

Murray needs to up his first-serve percentage just to keep Matteo Berrettini neutralised. Apart from that, he hasn't done a lot wrong.
