I think there's a good chance Matteo Berrettini will win Wimbledon one day - and I think he can do well on other surfaces too.

*Murray 4-6 2-2 Berrettini
Matteo Berrettini romps through a service game, plucking some pace and precision out of the quiver.
Now, Andy Murray has to serve from the sunny end of the court. The end where he has coughed up both his breaks so far in the match.

"Come on. Come on!" Murray instructs the fans sat behind his towel after breaking back.
We know how much Murray thrives on a pumped-up crowd and he's trying his best to get the New York fans going.
In the city that never sleeps, there is always a slightly lethargic atmosphere in the early matches.

Murray is in a nice little patch of form now. He's picked it up at just the right time.
Murray 4-6 2-1 Berrettini*
Andy Murray suddenly has a spring in his step as he heads for the first sit-down and isotonic sip of the second set.
He is finding his range with his groundstrokes, keeping Matteo Berrettini shuttling from side to side at the back of the court.
The serve is still an issue. He has landed with only 46% of his first serves.

What an opportune moment for Murray to break back. The lob on the baseline caught Berrettini by surprise but he tried to take the initative on break point, and he's got his just desserts.
*Murray 4-6 1-1 Berrettini
Andy Murray roars back to his box after seizing the rally by the scruff of the neck and shaking down Matteo Berretini for the break.
Level pegs in the second set.
Murray 4-6 1-0 Berrettini*
What larks!
Matteo Berrettini horribly misjudges an Andy Murray block return, initially thinking the Scot wasn't getting there, then thinking the ball was floating long, and only realising it was landing on the baseline after he had left it....
Break point Murray.

Murray stares down his team as he walks to his towel at the change of ends.
Brave man if he's locking eyes with Ivan Lendl.
He can be sterner than Ivan Drago.

That's two games now in which Murray has been broken and he's thrown in his only double faults of the match in both of them.
Murray 4-6 0-1 Berrettini*
Ominous.
Matteo Berrettini works over Andy Murray with a bruising forehand, pushing the Scot so far back he is practically in the Hudson.
Up goes the defensive lob from a stretching Murray.
Down come the hammer-of-Thor smash from Berrettini.
There goes the game...
*Murray 4-6 0-0 Berrettini
A groan from camp Murray as their man's drop-shot is a little too cute. It is swallowed by the gauze and puts Matteo Berrettini to 30-30.
Murray, put off by the overhead sun, duffs down a double fault and this is an early break chance for Berrettini...
*Murray 4-6 0-0 Berrettini

British player on BBC Radio 5 Live
There wasn't really much in it. I just think at times Berrettini has more firepower. He also used the drop shot really well. Murray is still trying to be aggressive when he does get into the rallies, but it is difficult to neutralise against somebody as big-hitting as Matteo.
*Murray 4-6 0-0 Berrettini
Matteo Berrettini hammers down two thudding aces and then lures Andy Murray long to bring up 40-0 and three set points.
He only needs the one.

Murary and Berrettini know each other really well. They practice with each other a lot, including here earlier this week, and Berrettini said he likes to play with someone who puts a lot of intensity into their practice.
Murray 4-5 Berrettini*
The service games are whipping past the scenery on the Tokyo-Kyoto express.
Andy Murray holds to love, whipping a forehand winner away on the final point.
He needs to put the brakes on Matteo Berrettini in the next game though or the opening set is toast.
Men's doubles
Top seeds Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram have swiftly moved into the third round of the men's doubles.
Briton Salisbury and American Ram saw off Aussie Luke Saville and Russian Aslan Karatsev 6-4 6-3 on the Grandstand court.
Another Briton, Lloyd Glasspool, is aiming to join them, alongside Finnish partner Harri Heliovaara. They took the first set 6-4 against the Brazilian-South African combination of Marcelo Melo and Raven Klaasen but trail 3-0 in the second.
*Murray 3-5 Berrettini
Matteo Berrettini is coming on strong down the home straight of this first set.
The Italian holds to love, another tricksy drop-shot delivering the fourth and final point.

A rollercoaster ride of emotions in the past couple of games.
That gem of a running pass from Andy Murray earned Ashe's biggest roar of appreciation so far.
The cheers turn to laughs - even from Murray - with that framed smash-turned-perfect-dropshot and then go to groans after the double fault.
