Marketa Vondrousova grew up playing in these conditions: a slow, chilly clay court.

She has won six of her seven BJK Cup singles matches and four of them have been on clay.

She's one of the better clay-court players on the WTA tour.

That's why Emma Raducanu comes into this match thinking she is the underdog.

It’s fair to say these are not the conditions you’d associate with playing on clay – gone is yesterday’s sunshine, it’s cold (2.4 degrees first thing this morning according to the thermometer outside the window – it’s probably hit 5C by now), it’s cloudy and it’s windy. Expect to see some woolly hats in the crowd!

    Raducanu v Vondrousova

Raducanu and Vondrousova have met before - and we're sure you remember it.

The British teenager memorably beat the Czech in the Wimbledon second round last year.

"She’s a great player and she made the final of the French Open. She loves clay and I’m looking forward to playing her," says Raducanu about today's match-up.

"If you are going to have a challenge, why not pick the toughest one. I’m up for it and who knows what happens.

"I know I’m going to give my all and Harriet – or whoever plays, I’m sure it’s Harriet – will give her all so the team is really pumped and looking forward to it."

Harriet Dart kicked off the tie against Marketa Vondrousova but she struggled against the former French Open finalist.

Vondrousova, who won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year, triumphed 6-1 6-0.

It was then down to Emma Raducanu, in her first professional clay-court match, to keep Great Britain in the tie.

She had to work hard and think on her feet to eventually come past Tereza Martincova 7-5 7-5.

  9. How does the tie work?published at 10:27 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

If you're new to following the BJK Cup - or forgotten the drill since the last one - here is how things will work in Prague:

    • The tie is the best-of-five matches
    • Two singles matches on Friday
    • Two more singles matches on Saturday and one doubles rubber - if needed
    • Played on outdoor clay

The winners will qualify for November's finals, while the runners-up will face a play-off tie in the same week.

However, Britain are among the nations bidding to host the finals and could also still qualify as the host nation.
