  1. Goodbye!published at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2023

After that epic, we need a lie down as much as Cam Norrie does.

That's all from us today. We'll be back tomorrow for day four in Melbourne, hoping to see some more Murray magic as Andy Murray takes on Australia's Thanasi Kokkinakis for a spot in the third round.

    We'll see you then.

  2. 'Norrie made that difficult'published at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2023

Cameron Norrie made that exceptionally difficult for himself.

He got sucked into the Constant Lestienne game - he doesn't play like your average ATP Tour professional.

British number one Norrie will play Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic next up.

For now though, 1:30am = bed time. Hope there's a car ready to race him back to his hotel!

    But he can the second!

Cam Norrie is through to the third round of the Australian Open, and his celebrations after Constant Lestienne netted at the end show just how much he had to fight for that one.

My word, what a rollercoaster that three hours and 13 minutes was.

This is Cam Norrie's to lose now. He's the more energetic and looks the most up for this.

He takes a 40-15 lead, and that equals two match points.

While this is clearly a late one, it is still well short (so far) of an infamous night here in 2019 when Johanna Konta finished at 3:12am.

That match against Garbine Muguruza didn't even start until after midnight.

Even more bizarrely it was going to be switched to another court but that plan was halted - because there was so much seagull poo on the outside court it would have taken too long to clear.

    I'm not winding you up.

It's bed time Cam. Time to get it done.

Norrie was scurrying hard to stay in the point.

Lestienne wanders over to his coach to explain how he missed it.

In answer to my question, Cam Norrie is going to get that all-important first break.

A huge roar from Norrie as he battles through yet another tough game, and Lestienne's head is down.

Norrie to serve for the match and a place in the third round of the Australian Open.

Another game, another hold. Big fist pumps from Norrie as he staves off Lestienne to 15.

Who is going to get that all-important break?

Hahaha! Unless my ears deceived me, and I'm sure they didn't, Lestienne celebrated that hold by shouting "Let's go Norrie"!

    Incredible trolling.

  12. 'Lestienne just throwing anything at Norrie'published at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2023

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Lestienne is just throwing anything at Cam Norrie, just to try change things up.

It sums up the whole game style of Lestienne that he can do this to a player of the calibre of Norrie - to come out on top of a game he shouldn't have won.

This is now the only match still being played at Melbourne Park. And it shows no sign of being finished any time soon.

Is Norrie making his move here? He eases to 0-30 up on Lestienne's serve and although the Frenchman nabs a point back with good anticipation at the net, he then strikes a wayward smash and Norrie has two break points.

Lestienne saves the first with a corker of a backhand into the corner, and Norrie then wastes the second with a mis-hit return. He soon sees another break point go begging.

The Frenchman squanders a game point of his own, but somehow, SOMEHOW, he then gets the hold.

Lestienne is getting increasingly tetchy. To be fair, I would be if I was playing tennis at almost 1:15am.

Someone in the crowd is still full of beans, though.

    "Let's go Norrie, let's gooooo!"

It's the kind of late-night version which you'd hear in a takeaway at kicking out time from the pub.

Lestienne greets it like someone has pushed in front of him and nabbed the last piece of fried chicken.

Not happy and sniping at someone in French.

    Norrie 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 3-2 Lestienne*

Norrie rattles off a love hold and Lestienne was simply not engaged in that game.

He's already walking to his chair as Norrie seals the deal with an ace - his 16th of the day.

Lestienne is being pushed by Norrie, and in a battling service game, sees his advantage at deuce cancelled out by a blistering forehand from the Brit.

As more errors start to enter the Frenchman's game, Norrie earns a break point but Lestienne is able to cancel it out with a forehand at the net.

He then puts his forehand to further good use, getting a crucial hold when he really needed it.

Fair play to the fans still sat in the stands, huddled under blankets, at gone 1am in Melbourne.

They're getting their money's worth with this match though.

    Annabel Croft

Norrie has to be careful here - he doesn't not want to start leaking all these unforced errors.

I think this ball-toss is really affecting him, Lestienne is complaining.

I have never really seen Norrie yell out like that. He is usually quite composed.

    Norrie 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 2-1 Lestienne*

Lestienne isn't happy about something, a few grumbles from him during this game, but that doesn't stop him from continuing to put Norrie under a heap of pressure.

He sees a break point go begging but then it's Norrie who is screaming in frustration as he hands the Frenchman another opportunity. Luckily for him, Lestienne can't capitalise again.

A baseline rally ensues but Lestienne nudges one a touch long, and then does so again. Norrie holds.
