Sabalenka shows how dangerous that forehand can be as she gets out to 0-30 on the Gauff serve.

It is a monster shot, today it has just misfired for her.

    Gauff 2-6 6-3 2-0 Sabalenka*

Sabalenka laughs to herself as Gauff hits a monster backhand for 15-0 but I don't think she's actually finding this very funny.

The Belarusian is not happy with her racquet. She has changed it a couple of times in this game. Gauff is winning the battles here, mentally and physically.

If you're inside Ashe and you haven't got goosebumps then you're not human.

    We're heading towards delirium, folks.

Seminal Brooklyn actor and director Spike Lee is among those standing up when Gauff approaches the baseline where he is sat.

Leaning over the rail, he is clapping harder than a loose letterbox in a gusty wind.

Careful Spike, don't go over the thing.

There is some serious momentum for Gauff now. She has raised her game and she has come to the party after a slow and unsteady start , where she was overpowered by Sabalenka in the first set.

  9. Gauff holdspublished at 22:55 British Summer Time 9 September 2023

    Gauff 2-6 6-3 2-0 Sabalenka*

After struggling with some nerves in that opening set Gauff has just grown in confidence in this match and she holds her serve with a big serve that pings off Sabalenka's racquet up into the sky/roof.

It is starting to feel like it could be written here for Gauff...

The amount of balls Sabalenka is having to play extra in the rallies is accumulating because of the movement and defensive skills from Coco Gauff.

Sometimes the footwork isn't quite there.

An early break! And what a shot to seal it!

Sabalenka gets lucky with a net cord then sends a lob up towards the back of the court but Gauff calmly brings it down and nails the forehand.

    This just got very interesting.

Gauff does so well to chase down from one side of the court to the other, reaching the forehand then the backhand. But it was really solid from Sabalenka dictating the point from the middle and she saves break point.

Despite losing the point she gives a little fist pump towards her box. She is happy with the way she's playing.

And so she should be as she brings up another break point.

Sabalenka to get us started in this deciding set.

Will it be a maiden US Open title for the Belarusian? Or a first Grand Slam title for home player Gauff?

The bloke sat behind sounds like Jelena Ostapenko.

Like the Latvian player, he doesn't trust the electronic line-calling system.

He's called out about a dozen Sabalenka returns which have been in.

We will have a deciding set!

Sabalenka skews one out of the back of the court and with that we will have a third set.

The roof on Arthur Ashe nearly blew off as Gauff coolly strode back to her seat.

Let's hope for some drama, folks.

I hope that this match will build to a crescendo. I feel if Coco can get this set under belt, then we might start to see both of them pull out all the stops for a final set.

Would be nice to see if they can both play their great tennis at the same time.
