Harriet Dart said on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It was a very disappointing match. It was probably the worst I played over the grass and it's a shame it came at Wimbledon. Even though I wasn't playing my best tennis, I still thought I could win the match.

"Being British and playing on home soil, nothing really beats it. I'm just a bit upset I didn't play very well today.

"For sure I'll go through it at some point and figure out why. I've got the doubles with Heather Watson and we'll look forward to playing in front of the home crowd."

  2. Players still off on Centrepublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 3 July 2023

    *Cachin 3-6 Djokovic

Novak Djokovic's coach Goran Ivanisevic is back out on Centre - but no sign of the players quite yet, with officials currently inspecting the turf to make sure it is dry enough for play to recommence.

So let's take a moment to reflect on some of the earlier results, starting with a first-round exit for Britain's Harriet Dart...

The biggest difference will be the acoustics. The ball coming off your racket will ping a bit more.

The last two games I would not have said have been steam-rolled through. It has been reasonably close but Zhu Lin will have to start off straight away with enough weight on her game to prevent Swiatek from getting hold of the game.

The covers are off, the players are getting back into the swing of things.

I think, on Court One at least, play is about to return.

  5. Centre Court and Court One ready for playpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 3 July 2023

Indeed, the only disruption so far today has been from the skies.

We may have to wait for the action to resume on the outside courts, given how grey and gloomy conditions look - but the good news is that the roofs are firmly in place on the show courts, Centre and One.

Why is the plural of roof, roofs but the plural of hoof is hooves? One for you to ponder while we await the imminent restart.

  6. Wimbledon strengthens securitypublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 3 July 2023

Wimbledon has strengthened its security this year and is using undercover "behavioural detection officers" to try to avoid becoming the latest sporting event to be disrupted by environmental protests.

Activists from Just Stop Oil have targeted events like the Ashes, rugby union's Premiership final and the World Snooker Championship, calling for the government to halt all new oil, gas and coal projects.

"As we've seen in other sporting events, we can't guarantee anything, but we are extremely confident that the measures we've got in place are the right measures, and we're ready to deal with something if it happens," Sally Bolton, chief executive of the All England Club, told reporters on Monday.

"We've certainly uplifted security in areas such as the gates and around the course, with enhanced bag searches, and we are communicating with people to explain how that may take a little more time.

She said it was not necessarily about increasing the numbers of security staff but rather about the tactics they are using.

"A part of our security arrangements are a group of what are called behavioural detection officers - we have them every year, but maybe they will be looking for slightly different things than they would in any other year."

  7. Murray second on Centre on Tuesdaypublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 3 July 2023

    Tuesday's order of play

Andy Murray's first-round match against fellow Brit Ryan Peniston is the second scheduled match on Centre Court tomorrow.

As is traditional on the first Tuesday at the All England Club, the defending women's singles champion gets things going on Centre - Elena Rybakina will take on American Shelby Rogers, with second seed Aryna Sabalenka on last.

The Court One crowd will see Britain's Cameron Norrie, a men's semi-finalist in 2022, in the third match on Court One against Tomas Machac, as well as men's world number one Carlos Alcaraz and last year's women's runner-up Ons Jabeur.

The covers kids are greeted like rock stars when they leap out onto the stage and drag across the protective canvas.

Huge cheers as they scamper across the court.

There was a little bit of rain for about a minute and as soon as the players headed off court it seemed to stop.

Certainly not classed as a downpour by northern England standards.

    'It's spitting!' - maybe.

Perhaps the weather radar looks more ominous.

Wimbledon 2023:'Disappointing end' for GB's Harriet Dart as Diane Parry earns win

There was disappointment for Great Britain's Harriet Dart, who won the first set but lost in three to unseeded French player Diane Parry.

No such problems for the world number one Iga Swiatek though - she is breezing through her first-round match against China's Zhu Lin.

Fourth seed Jessica Pegula and Victoria Azarenka, the 19th seed, are also through to round two.

In the men's draw, seventh seed Andrey Rublev and 14th seed Lorenzo Musetti are the first two players into the second round.

Oh, and it's raining! Play was suspended at about 14:20 BST, but should resume on the show courts shortly.

Eventually the relentless Novak Djokovic gets the break in the eighth game of the match, but it needed a superb effort to see off some brilliant defence from Pedro Cachin.

Cachin at the net makes two stunning goalkeeper-like saves before he can’t save the third one as Djokovic gets three break points. The rally of the match follows, with Cachin eventually coming out on top to huge, well-deserved applause.

But the third break point can’t be saved and Djokovic then serves out the set.

However, he complained of the surface becoming slippery and at the end of the set the rain comes, the covers come on for the first time and the players retreat into the dressing rooms.

When we start again Djokovic will resume with a set advantage.

It's really not very heavy rain by UK standards, but raining heavy enough for tennis on a grass court to not happen.

Another Brit is in action over on Court 15, where I can confirm it is also raining.

Liam Broady is taking on France’s Constant Lestienne and it’s been pretty comfortable stuff for the 29-year-old so far.

The world number 142 is a break up but the rain is just starting to come down and the covers are being readied.

A woman sat near me says ‘oh noooo not rain’ - I think we can all agree on that.

The court will have a slickness to it depending on how much rain has fallen on it.

I guess because it has lightened up, the crowd must be wondering why they have stopped it now. But there might obviously be some more rain coming on.

The air suddenly got chillier and you could feel it swooping in.

Where are the brollies for the players?

Zhu covers her head with a Wimbledon towel, while many of the fans in the front rows scarper higher or inside.
