Rybakina wasn’t that good as a junior, so she didn’t get much funding from the Russian federation.

She made the best decision of her life to sign up with the Kazakhstan federation and get financial support.

    Cornet 2-4 Rybakina*

    Oooooh.

A mistake from Cornet where she mistimed the shot and it ballooned out of court caused her to slap her thigh several times in frustration.

It draws a 'ooo-oooo' from the crowd - the sort of sound you make when someone is just being slightly sassy.

    Cornet 2-4 Rybakina*

Alize Cornet just about scrapes to a hold, despite a massively mistimed forehand, benefitting from a wayward Elena Rybakina shot to close out the game.

Alize Cornet finally gets herself on the board in the fourth game.

This has been a much better start than Elena Rybakina's first match on Centre Court where she lost the first set.

It's fairly empty on Wimbledon's main stage at the moment, I imagine people are still grabbing refreshments after that mammoth Liam Broady match and haven't quite had time to make their way back to their seats yet.

The wind is also just picking up a little so it will be interesting to see if that affects things.

So far Rybakina is running away with this first set.

    Cornet 1-3 Rybakina*

Well that's some save from 0-40. Alize Cornet fires in two strong first serves to take control of the next two points and sneak to a hold.

  18. Break point Rybakinapublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

Better from Cornet who stays in two rallies to take us to 30-40.

  19. Triple break point Rybakinapublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    *Cornet 0-3 Rybakina

Alize Cornet can barely win a point, let alone a game.

Elena Rybakina races to 0-40 in double-quick time and looks set to go two breaks up.
