American Sloane Stephens was just one game away from winning against Croatia's Donna Vekic mere minutes ago, but the 20th seed breaks at the perfect moment and Stephens will have to force a tie-break if she's to win this in straight sets.

After finding herself a set down, fifth seed Caroline Garcia has clawed one back against Leylah Fernandez and we’re on serve in the decider on court three.

Beatriz Haddad Maia, who also lost her opening set, has just won her second-round match against Jaqueline Cristian 4-6 6-2 6-4.

Meanwhile, Jelena Ostapenko, the number 17 seed, is out. The Latvian lost 4-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 to Sorana Cirstea.

American tenth seed Frances Tiafoe has got his second-round tie underway on court 12 against Dominic Stricker.

Tiafoe’s compatriot and ninth seed Taylor Fritz is whizzing through his match against Mikael Ymer of Sweden, winning the first set 6-3 and taking the second 6-2.

Elena Rybakina bosses the head-to-head record, beating Alize Cornet twice, both in 2020, in Strasbourg and Hobart.

The players come out to an almost empty Centre Court. I think everyone is having a toilet break/restocking on food and drinks after Liam Broady's five-set epic.

The Frenchwoman defeated then five-time champion Serena Williams 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a thriller in 2014.

Last year she upset world number one Iga Swiątek in the third round, ending the Pole's 37-match winning streak.

Later in 2022, she beat defending champion Emma Raducanu in the first round of the US Open.

Wimbledon 2023: Defending champion Elena Rybakina beats Shelby Rogers

Two days ago defending Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina recovered from a nervous start to avoid a first-round exit against American Shelby Rogers.

The Kazakh, whose title defence began with a double fault, won 4-6 6-1 6-2.

She later put her nerves down partly to being the champion, and also down to the presence of eight-time men's winner Roger Federer in the Royal Box.

Today she faces Alize Cornet on Centre Court, after the world number 72 beat Nao Hibino in the first round.

    Broady 6-4 3-6 4-6 6-3 6-0 Ruud

Here's what Liam Broady had to say on BBC TV after his five-set win against Casper Ruud: "I would have liked to have played him back home, but Centre Court of Wimbledon will do.

"When I went to bed last night, I was having a think of what I'd say if I won the match, but now I'm here I don't know what to say.

"I said to my mum this morning, she doesn't like watching, but I said I've already won £80,000 this week so she can chill out a bit."

On Denis Shapovalov in third-round tie: "Denis is a mercurial talent, he's one of the best players in the world as is Casper. He's won junior Wimbledon. He's an amazing player. With a crowd like this then why not have a go again."
