  1. Tomova secures first breakpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    *Tomova 2-0 Boulter

Brilliant from Viktoriya Tomova as she shows some great determination in the second game.

She stretches to make a lob at the net at 15-15 to move 30-15 ahead before Boulter's return into the net gives Tomova her first break point.

Boulter then hits a return long and Tomova leads 2-0. A big turnaround from the first set.

Alexander Zverev, whose first-round match with Gijs Brouwer finally took place on Thursday on day four of the tournament, has just been speaking to the crowd on Court One.

He says: "He was a very tough opponent and the rain was a very tough opponent.

"I'm just happy to be back at Wimbledon [after missing the 2022 event with a serious ankle injury sustained in the 2022 French Open semi-finals].

"I missed it last year with a bad injury so just to be on this court I'm happy to be here with 10,000 people. I know Wimbledon is the most historic tennis tournament in the world and maybe the most historic sporting event in the world.

"Being involved is something special and I have definitely missed it. Luckily I got to play today, I play again tomorrow and the day after, well if I win of course. It's going to be a tough few days with back-to-back matches and it is never easy physically - I'm just happy to be playing tennis now."

What a start for Katie Boulter.

It’s taken me ages to get to court 12 as the queues were snaking all the way round the back of the stand to see the British number one in action.

At this rate by the time they’ve managed to get in this match will be over!

Boulter will be pleased with this start having had a disrupted couple of days with protests and rain.

    Oh P.S. It’s sweltering.

    *Broady 6-4 3-6 3-3 Ruud

A bit of a lull on Centre at the minute - neither player has really made an impact on the other's serve in the opening six games of set three.

That continues as fourth seed Casper Ruud holds to 15.

  5. Postpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    Tomova* 0-6 1-0 Boulter

Just the start Viktoriya Tomova needs as she holds to love in the opening game of the second set.

    The start of a fightback?

    Broady 6-4 3-6 3-2 Ruud*

Not aggressive enough in that Broady service game, though, Feliciano.

The Brit holds to love, to the delight of most of the spectators packing Centre Court.

Ruud is definitely more aggressive now.

In the men's draw British wildcard Jan Choinski lost in three sets to Polish 17th seed Hubert Hurkacz.

Stan Warwinka has finished off 29th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-2 to set up a cracking third-round meeting with defending champion Novak Djokovic.

Spain's Roberto Carballes Baena beat Matteo Arnaldi of Italy in four sets.

There have also been wins for the Netherlands' Botic van de Zandschulp, Canada's Denis Shapovalov and Italian 14th seed Lorenzo Musetti.

So far in the women's singles, Ukrainian wildcard Elina Svitolina beat Belgian 28th seed Elise Mertens to reach the third round at Wimbledon on day four.

On court 12, French Open runner-up Karolina Muchova suffered a shock first-round exit to Jule Niemeier.

American qualifier Sofia Kenin reached the third round by easing past China's Wang Xinyu 6-4 6-3.

And two other Ukrainians, Lesia Tsurenko and Anhelina Kalinina, also secured wins.

  9. 'Boulter has just motored through'published at 15:29 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    Tomova 0-6 Boulter

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

I thought that Tomova wouldn't have too many weapons to hurt Boulter with. Once she got ahead in the score-line - she has just motored through. Tomova is looking exasperated and swamped with big hitting (from Boulter).

  10. Postpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    *Broady 6-4 3-6 2-2 Ruud

A telegraphed drop shot from Casper Ruud has Liam Broady racing from the baseline but with options aplenty he just dumps it into the net.

The Brit will be annoyed with that and also with the forehand that finds the net at 40-30 down. We remain on serve in set three.

  11. Boulter takes first setpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    Tomova 0-6 Boulter

Katie Boulter wraps up the first set in just 27 minutes.

There were some nerves from both early on but once Boulter got that immediate break there was no stopping her.

Viktoriya Tomova has barely had a chance to play her game.

Game, set and match - Zverevpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    Zverev 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) Brouwer

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Germany's Alexander Zverev, the 19th seed, gets the job done and moves into the second round of Wimbledon - but needed two tie-breaks to help him do so against Dutch qualifier Gijs Brouwer.

World number 153 Brouwer has still had a great couple of weeks in London though as he got through three rounds of qualifying to make his main-draw debut at Wimbledon, with him getting to experience the amazing setting of Court One first time out.

He may be replaying those two missed set points in the second set in his head though.

Next up for Zverev is Japan's Yosuke Watanuki, the world number 116, who has just edged out Switzerland's Marc-Andrea Huesler in a five-set epic that lasted one minute short of four hours.

Watanuki had never played in the main draw in 2023 and wouldn't have expected to be doing so when he lost to Austria's Denis Novak in the third qualifying round a week ago. But now, as a lucky loser, he has got a second-round match against the former world number two to look forward to.

    Broady 6-4 3-6 2-1 Ruud*

An exquisite smash from the back of the court, so tough to execute that but Liam Broady did it perfectly.

He gives a quiet fist pump after moving 30-0 up but Casper Ruud rallies to win the next point and then reaches a big Broady forehand to take the one after too. 30-30.

A long Ruud return eases Broady's nerves and a big lob goes inches long from the Norwegian to ensure the hold.

  14. A third break for Boulterpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    *Tomova 0-5 Boulter

I can't keep up because Katie Boulter is breezing through this match so quickly.

A third break of a dominant first set puts her within touching distance.

Boulter is serving for the set.

    Tomova 0-4 Boulter*

Just 18 minutes in and Katie Boulter increases her lead to 4-0 thanks to another excellent service game.

A wayward shot at 40-0 is the only real blemish but she makes up for it by slamming home an ace to extend her advantage.

    Zverev 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-6 Brouwer

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

So for the second set in a row we go into a tie-break on Court One. The last one went Alexander Zverev's way and the match will be over if this one does too.

  17. Ruud holds to lovepublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    *Broady 6-4 3-6 1-1 Ruud

Liam Broady pirouettes in an attempt to return a smash that was behind him but finds only air as he smiles and the Centre Court crowd giggles.

He's not landed a glove on the Casper Ruud serve in this game as the Norwegian holds to love, a complete contrast to the fourth seed's previous service game at the end of set two.

  18. Broady holds at start of third setpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    Broady 6-4 3-6 1-0 Ruud*

Double fault? No problem. I'll just bring out the drop shot next point, says Liam Broady.

Another unforced error from Casper Ruud follows and it's a hold for the Brit. Who will blink first in this third set?

  19. Postpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    *Tomova 0-3 Boulter

Katie Boulter is playing some confident tennis now and she breezes to a second break of the match, dropping just one point.

An excellent start by the Brit, who is firmly in control of this first set.

Andrey Rublev, the seventh seed, is leading by two sets to one against fellow Russian Aslan Karatsev.

Meanwhile on court 14, it's all level in the opening set between Brazilian 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia and Jaqueline Cristian.
