A must-win that was for Liam Broady. Ruud could have put that set away.

Broady 6-4 2-4 Ruud*
Liam Broady comes through that test from deuce as he holds to keep himself in this set.
*Broady 6-4 1-4 Ruud
Yes, Liam Broady - that's much better. Big backhand down the line and while Ruud reaches it, the court is wide open for the Brit to dispatch a running forehand down the other line.
However, the Norwegian pulls off a delicate half-volley at the net and it's deuce.
*Broady 6-4 1-4 Ruud
Twice, Liam Broady finds the net with a backhand and this set is quickly unravelling for him. 15-30 behind and already down a break.

Definitely not comfortable is Ruud, but he's managed to hang in here with his emotions because he is a world class player. Feliciano Lopez has predicted a four set match here. There is a big question mark over Ruud's attitude on this surface.
*Broady 6-4 1-4 Ruud
Don't want to sound like a broken record but Casper Ruud just clearly is not comfortable on this surface.
His first serve is keeping him in this match though - oh, and the odd big forehand like the one he's just found the tramline with. Two games away from levelling the match despite not being anywhere near his best.

There's a decent amount of spin on the ball from Ruud, but they are not going through the court.
Broady 6-4 1-3 Ruud*
Oh, commentators have just said that a Ruud shot was out according to the technology at 0-30 - but Broady did not challenge it.
Could have been three break-back points. He does at least take the Ruud serve to deuce though after the Norwegian seems to hit one off the frame of his racquet and we don't need replays to see that was out.

Blimey. Broady had to be like a plasticine man - a tennis Morph if you like - in that final point as he looked to cling onto serve.
Broady's arms and legs were contorting and crossing all over the place as he kept getting balls back.
But even he couldn't get to the smash which Ruud almost dented the grass with.
We have a match on our hands here.

Just watching that last game as it unfolded. Maybe he did receive some instruction, takin the ball earlier and that takes time away (from Broady)
Broady 6-4 1-3 Ruud*
Liam Broady broke back in the first set after dropping serve - and he's threatening to do the same here after a couple of poor points from Casper Ruud. 0-30.

On court 16, Latvian Jelena Ostapenko is about to start her second-round match against Romanian Sorana Cirstea.
She’ll be looking to replicate her good run in 2019 where she reached the semi-final. Plus, she has had a good build-up on grass having won the Birmingham Classic last month.
Zverev 6-4 7-6 (7-4) Brouwer
Michael Emons

Gijs Brouwer twice missed set points to take set number two and that proves costly as he then loses the second-set tie-break.
The first set point saw Zverev produce a serve at 130mph just when he needed it, with the ball springing up off the turf with the Dutchman only able to return it long.
The second saw Brouwer slip at a really unfortunate moment as a shot he was in place for, went past him while he was on the turf.
In the tie-break, Zverev seals it 7-4, bolting down a superb ace. He screams out 'come on', raises his fist in the direction of those in his team and can enjoy the fact he's two sets up.
Brouwer, ranked 153rd in the world, may well be thinking about those two set points missed long after this match has finished.
Broady 6-4 1-3 Ruud*
A relieved Liam Broady saves the first break point with a backhand volley after failing to put away a smash.
But the Norwegian shows him how it's done, dominating the next point and converting a huge overhead for the break.
*Broady 6-4 1-2 Ruud
Make that 0-40 as an acute backhand volley at the net from Liam Broady hits the top of the cord - and drops back on his own side.
*Broady 6-4 1-2 Ruud
Danger on the Liam Broady serve - 0-30 down after a bit of a tentative point from the Briton is punished by a Ruud backhand down the line.
Bondar 3-6 6-3 0-4 Andreescu

Over on court 17, 2019 US Open winner Bianca Andreescu is getting on well against Hungarian Anna Bondar.
We’re into a deciding set but the Canadian has just confirmed a double break lead with an absolutely thumping ace.
It’s a cosy court this one with everyone huddled round trying to peer over heads and get a good view.
Being 5ft 4ins, I’m not much use here.

Liam Broady is playing well. He's outside the top 100 by quite some way and he's playing a top player.

When will the Ruud camp take on someone with some knowledge on grass? What we're seeing is just not anything that translates from the other surfaces to grass.
*Broady 6-4 1-2 Ruud
Casper Ruud wins that big point with a lovely deep forehand approach and when Liam Broady lashes one long during the next rally, we remain on serve at the start of the second set on Centre.
