It looks like Svitolina has got a problem with her eye. Perhaps something has got stuck in it and they’re now having to wash it out.

Not being able to see could definitely be a reason why she struggled in that set.

Well, after two remarkably contrasting sets we’re going to a decider.

Svitolina has requested the physio after looking like a completely different player in that second set.

I’m not surprised really, she just didn’t look quite with it at all there.

  5. Love-hold for Choinskipublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    Choinski 4-6 3-2 Hurkacz*

A first love-hold for world number 164 Choinski. This second set is flying by with serve and volleys on the agenda.

    *Choinski 4-6 2-2 Hurkacz

Hubert Hurkacz is in such a fine rhythm on serve, it's really difficult to see how Jan Choinski can get ahead in this set.

The Pole races to 40-0 and, despite letting Choinski back in with a failed tweener, the 17th seed strolls to another hold.

    Choinski 4-6 2-1 Hurkacz*

Choinski survives after more top serving. We remain on serve in set two.

A real missed opportunity for Hurkacz who faltered at 15-40.

And he saves the second as Hubert Hurkacz finds the net. Gutsy stuff from GB's Jan Choinski.

  9. Break point Hurkaczpublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    *Choinski 4-6 1-1 Hurkacz

Oh no, break point time at 15-40.

Choinski saves the first as Hurkacz misses a pass down the line.

    Svitolina 6-1 0-4 Mertens*

This is more like it from Belgian Elise Mertens.

She now finds herself a break up in the second set and with three break points. Can she take her chance?

Yes! Svitolina lobs one wide and Mertens has the double break.

Complete role reversal in this set.

One of the great vantage points at the All England Club.

On the top of the Broadcast Centre overlooking Court 18, where Jan Choinski’s resistance has finally buckled against 2021 semi-finalist Hubert Hurkacz.

The group of Polish fans, who have red and white paints smudged over their faces, will be happy.

Although Choinski - as you might have guessed from his surname - has Polish roots so they have a foot in both camps.

Choinski’s father is from Poland and, as you heard earlier, was a ballet dancer who met his English wife at a German school where they were training.

After just over half hour on Court Three, Stan Wawrinka, down at 88th in the rankings, takes the first set 6-3 against Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the 29th seed.

Novak Djokovic plays the winner and it could well be the 36-year-old against 38-year-old Wawrinka. He needs to win two more sets to set up a repeat of previous Grand Slam finals.

Djokovic has certainly not forgot about losing to Wawrinka in the finals of the 2015 French Open and the 2016 US Open.

"He took two Grand Slams away from me," was Djokovic's instant recollection when asked yesterday.

Hubert Hurkacz has raised his level now and the Pole has too much zip for Briton Jan Choinski.

That’s the best shot he has played of the match so far.

Well, that first set was over in a flash.

Elise Mertens is actually ranked a lot higher than Elina Svitolina at the moment but the Ukrainian has only recently returned to the sport after having a baby.

She secured that opening set with a double break and made pretty light work of it.

A lady behind me just said ‘OK let’s make this competitive now’ - yes, seconded.
