A day at Wimbledon sounds like a great date, especially if you're both already there working.

But Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter are taking it to a new level. Playing sport with a romantic partner can always be a bit stressful but De Minaur and Boulter have taken the plunge and are giving it a go as mixed doubles partners over on court 14.

It only has three rows of seats either side of the court, with every spot taken as well as a large contingent of people outside, desperately trying to catch a glimpse of the British number one Boulter and Australian De Minaur, who had been the 17th seed in the men's singles.

De Minaur may not have been in the best of moods earlier as he lost in the second round of the men's singles to 2021 finalist Matteo Berrettini.

But spending some time with a partner is normally a great way to brighten up your day. And the happy couple are enjoying themselves so far as they have taken the first set 6-2 in their first-round match with the Australian duo of John Peers and Storm Hunter.

Warm high-fives are following every game, with Boulter and De Minaur chatting away, joking and laughing, at the changeovers.

  10. British interest in mixed doublespublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 7 July 2023

Today might have been the end of the road for the British men in the singles, but there's plenty of British interest in the mixed doubles.

Second seeds Neal Skupski and American Desirae Krawczyk are currently a set up against Belgium's Joran Vliegen and China's Xu Yifan on court five.

Over on court seven, British duo Jonny O'Mara and Olivia Nicholls are a set down but on serve in the second set with France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium.

And, finally, British women's singles number one Katie Boulter and her Australian boyfriend Alex de Minaur are about to get the second set of their match underway on court 14 after taking the first 6-2 against Australian pair John Peers and Storm Hunter.

There's a slight breeze swirling around Centre Court now.

It's turning into a rather pleasant evening after the dizzying temperatures this afternoon. The only problem is that it is wafting the smell of the various food stalls outside into my nostrils and making me hungry.

Meanwhile, in the actual tennis, we stay on serve.

Here's what top seed Carlos Alcaraz had to say after his straight-set win over Frenchman Alexandre Muller on Centre Court:

"I’m really, really happy. This is my second match on Centre Court. The first one I lost last year so I am happy to play here again with a win. It’s a really beautiful court. I wanted to enjoy every single second and I did.

"It’s important to start the tournament well and have great feelings. I am playing well on grass, I am enjoying it and playing at a great level and getting more experience. I am getting better every match I play.

"Playing here at Wimbledon is very special, you feel different compared to other tournaments.

"I always say I try to enjoy playing tennis, I try to make the people enjoy watching tennis. For me it is special to have the love from the people in every country that I go. It’s the most important thing.

"I don’t mind if I lose or not, I want to keep the love and support that I have. It’s an amazing energy that I receive."

English golfers Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose are on Centre Court, two weeks before yet another sporting highlight of the summer with The Open at Royal Liverpool.

They won't have enjoyed the exodus of Brits we've seen over the past couple of hours.

They will however be enjoying the quality of tennis at SW19.

Andy Murray spoke in his press conference about the future, and whether we will see him back at Wimbledon in 2024.

"I don't know. Motivation is obviously a big thing and to continue having early losses in tournaments like this don't necessarily help with that.

"It's similar to last year. I had a long think about things and spoke to my family and decided to keep on going.

"I don't plan to stop right now but this one will take a little while to get over."
