    Much, much better from Molcan.

Zverev can't get over the line as he mishits a forehand to help the Slovakian half the deficit. And we're back at deuce after a winner wrong-foots the 22nd seed.

You wonder how much Alexander Zverev thinks about what happened here a year ago or whether it’s completely out of his mind.

As he gets a few more reps here I think he will relax a bit more. He still looks a little tentative on some of those shots.

  7. Fritz finding his feetpublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    *Rinderknech 6-2 2-3 Fritz

After seeing Arthur Rinderknech energised by the home crowd, riding that wave of positivity all the way to the first set, Taylor Fritz has begun to settle.

The American was starting to gather himself late in the previous set but it was just too late to turn it around.

But so far in the second, he has held his own serve relatively comfortably - winning the latest with a lovely drop shot - and put a bit of pressure on Rinderknech.

The Frenchman has been up to the challenge so far but the ninth seed is pressing.

It’s been a long time coming for Alexander Zverev, just trying to get back some semblance of the form he had [before his ankle injury].

Trying to feel good out there, trust his body, trust his legs and obviously the ankle – that can be a struggle after such a horrific injury.

    Zverev 6-4 0-0 Molcan*

Alexander Zverev takes the first set in 45 blistering minutes.

I can't remember a game where the 22nd seed hasn't looked comfortable. He's a level above Alex Molcan at the moment.

The former semi-finalist gets over the line by cutting off the angle with a dart to the net, forcing an error from his opponent.

Alexander Zverev's turn to benefit with a drop shot as he gets Alex Molcan into a twist, stretching at the net.

And then he backs up his play with a display of power, thundering a clean crosscourt forehand winner from deep to go up 30-15.

  13. Navarro fights back against Andreescupublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 1 June 2023

    *Andreescu 6-1 2-4 Navarro

Meanwhile, the second set is not proving as straightforward for Bianca Andreescu.

Having breezed through the opener, the Canadian finds herself a break down against Emma Navarro as the American attempts to get herself back into this.

Having saved a break point in the second game, Navarro took her opportunity in game five and she has just held serve for a 4-2 lead.

It looked rather unlikely after a one-sided first set, but it now appears we could be heading for a decider out on court 14.

Arthur Rinderknech has started fantastically, taking the first set 6-2.

If Alexander Zverev wants to win this first set he'll have to serve for it. Alex Molcan goes up a gear forcing his opponent on the run. A brilliant rally sees Zverev sprinting back to meet a lob with a tweener.

But Molcan sees the point off with a drop-shot winner at the net to get the fans on Philippe Chatrier on their feet.

After getting the better of Taylor Fritz as the pair exchange drop shots in the first point of the game, Arthur Rinderknech lets a 30-0 lead become 30-40.

Fritz is really making the home favourite work to clinch the set. Rinderknech saves the break point, though, and an ace down the middle brings up his first set point.

That one goes begging but he makes sure with the next.

A big serve out wide and he's quickly in to the net for a delicate volley. France's last hope in the singles is a set to the good.
