So, what's happening? Twelve ladies have made it to the final and will hit the halfpipe twice. It is their best score that will count. We're nearly done in the first run, with Australia's defending champion Torah Bright yet to go.

There are five diverse events each for men and women. Slopestyle and halfpipe are judged disciplines, where big jumps, tricks and style are king.

Parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom have more in common with alpine ski racing, while snowboard cross - a race down a bump-laden course - somewhat bridges the divide.

A knockout format is used in all events.

So, where to next? I'll tell you where - the women's snowboard halfpipe final. Remember the drama of Shaun White et al last night? Can we do it all over again?

"Sweden two goals up after the first period and looking every inch the strong, well-rounded outfit they were billed. The second goal, from Patrik Berglund, was a rocket.

"The decor inside the Bolshoy Ice Dome is all a very familiar shade of hot pink. It's like an icy London 2012 in here."

That win leaves Britain fourth in the group table, occupying the fourth and final semi-final qualification spot. They are next in action against the United States tomorrow.

Cooler than the ice he slides on, Murdoch curls the final stone left to right as we look, dislodging the Swiss and giving Britain a third win from four games.

Last stone coming up. Swiss red in the centre of the house. If Dave Murdoch can take it out, Great Britain will have their third win.

  10. Curlingpublished at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2014

Switzerland are hoping for a British error. Guard stone goes in, blasted away by a yellow stone. Repeat. Only two stones each remain. One red Swiss brick in the house. Can Dave Murdoch hold on?

"Czech goalie Jakub Kovar, screened by Sweden's offence, barely saw that - Erik Karlsson's shot from range clips Kovar's glove and loops into the net. A slightly soft goal to concede but the Czech Republic need to do a better defensive job.

"By the way, we have cheerleaders in the aisles now, and the arena has filled up nicely. Czech support noisier."

So, the tension of a final end for Great Britain. Noise tells us Russia are doing well on another sheet. Early stages of the last stanza - one red block of granite in the house for Switzerland, with two guarding at the front. Tricky for the men in white.

  13. Curlingpublished at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2014

Dave Murdoch uses his final stone to blast the solitary Swiss red brick off the ice. End blanked, Britain maintain their one-point lead and take the hammer into the denouement.

"Sweden are the favourites tonight. All but one of the Swedish team here play NHL hockey in North America for a living - not that this guarantees anything but the squad is also considered one of the most balanced in the Olympics, starting with goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, one of the world's form players heading into the Games.

"The Czech Republic aren't as strong as Sweden defensively but have vast experience and attacking potency in veteran Jaromir Jagr.

Deep into the ninth end, Britain have the sole yellow stone in the house. The arena lights glint off the white of the ice as the Swiss plant a red stone in front as a guard. Britain, though, have yellow rolling boulders to keep the path clear.

Four gold medals have been dished out today and there are two more left to be contested. The women's snowboard halfpipe begins at 17:25 and, if it's anything like the men's final yesterday, we're in for a cracker. The pairs free figure skating is under way and will conclude at about 19:00. Both can be watched at the top of this page.

  17. Curlingpublished at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2014

A messy conclusion to the end sees Switzerland pick up a point on Great Britain, handing over the hammer for the ninth and penultimate end. Will GB look to blank this to keep the advantage for the finale?

  18. Curlingpublished at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2014

"Haaaarrrrrrdddd, haaaarrrrddddd," screams skip Murdoch as he sends down the penultimate GB stone of the eighth end. Ooohhh, it's not good, clattering the guard at the front of the house. A chance for Switzerland.
