By the way, if you're wondering how they decide who goes where in the doubles luge, it's the heavier man who goes on top. So, for the bottom man, not only can you not see and have only a bit of lycra for separation, but you're also being squashed by the bigger bloke.
Alice Waterfield:, external I really though that team luge would be about five men lying on top of each other like in doubles. Disappointed.
Russia up next, faster than Latvia on the splits. What's the final score? New leaders, shaving more than half a second off the fastest time. Is that good enough to pressure the Germans? Still five crews to go.
GB Bobsleigh on Twitter:, external "First day of two-man official training done for GBR. Thoughts with the track worker injured today at the venue."
Latvia, strong contenders, on the course, decked out in Aston Villa maroon. Slippery, slidey, pad biffed. Here come the Sics brothers, bronze-medal winners yesterday. They have a combined weight of over 200kgs! Into the lead, pushing Poland down into second.
I've seen a tweet, external suggesting that there could be some sort of mega-relay involving luge, skeleton and bobsleigh. We need to make this happen. Someone get the IOC on the phone. NOW!
Lady Pod:, external I cannot say I'm not a little bit disappointed that the luge relay doesn't involve passing a baton at 100mph.
As the Czech Republic narrowly miss out on taking the lead from Poland, I have one suggestion for making luge even more brilliant. Instead of sending sliders one at a time, they could send them off together, in a race. Yes, it would be fraught with danger, but think of the overtaking. It would like being at a waterpark and trying to catch up with the person in front of you on the huge slide. Sometimes you get stuck, praying there isn't someone coming around the corner about to take you out.
Bar none, team luge is my favourite Winter Olympic sport. I mean, there's so much that can go wrong. If you're sitting at the top of the course, do you know if your mates have crashed? You could be waiting for ages. Aside from the frantic craziness, there's also the bizarre spectacle of two men lying on the same sled. Fully grown fellas careering down 1300m of ice at 85mph. It's basically extreme spooning.
Amy Williams
2010 Olympic skeleton champion on BBC TV
"It is a joy to watch Lizzy Yarnold. She is very calm, and stands on the start line like it is not even the Olympics.
"I told her to go out there and just have fun. She is solid, and very confident.
"You would never know it is her first Olympics. She now just has to hold onto her lead, as 0.44 seconds is huge."
Yarnold looks set for Britain's first gold medal of the Sochi Winter Olympics after leading the skeleton after the first two runs. See the second and final day of competition on Friday afternoon, from 1540 GMT across the BBC.

American Jeremy Abbott takes a nasty tumble and lands on hip but after a few moments regains his composure and resumes his routine. "He's in agony," says Robin Cousins on BBC commentary. That's the Olympic spirit in all its glory. No pain, no gain. He gets a standing ovation from the mostly Russian crowd - and quite rightly, he takes over the lead.
Who should be looking out for? Basically, it's all about the Germans. So far, they have won every gold on offer at these Games - the women, men, and the pairs. It would be huge shock if they do not add a fourth victory.
A button? It's more like a huge gong that hangs over the course. Sliders, having being lying down all the way, have to sit up to reach out both arms to hit the pad. Now, the obvious question is - what happens if the pad is missed? Do you have to sprint back up the ice, slip-sliding all the way?
Yep, each team comprises a woman, a man, then a doubles pair. Once they get to the end of the run, they hit a button that opens the gate for the next sled to come hurtling down. Does it not sound brilliant?
Team GB speed skater Elise Christie on Twitter:, external "Thank you to everyone for your support, I'm so grateful! I totally respect the referee's decision, sorry to the other finalists."
Remember the two-men-on-a-teatray fun of yesterday? Today, there's a whole team sliding down the mountain!
Wilf O’Reilly
Former Olympic short track speed skater on BBC TV
"From the angle behind it looked like Elise Christie was nudged in the back first by Arianna Fontana.
"Because of the rough and tumble type of sport speed skating is, you take it one race at a time. If you had asked her before if she would have been happy with a 500m final appearance, she would have answered 'yes'."
