GB have never won a women's short track Olympic medal. In under an hour, Elise Christie will be in a four-woman final. How about those odds?

Elise Christie will be joined in the final by South Korea's Park Seung-Hi, who won the first semi-final, and Italy's Arianna Fontana, while the woman who trailed Christie in the second semi-final - China's Li Jianrou - completes the line up.

That was a stunning semi-final. Every sport tries to tell you "anything can happen" but short track is one of the few sports that delivers on that promise - the favourite, double 500m world champion Fan Kexin, goes spinning out early in the race and Christie makes it through to the final.

Four years of training and you could never, ever, plan for those circumstances. Now there will be just four skaters in the final. A medal for Christie would be a huge result in what is not her main event.

"It was a superb skate from Elise Christie. She capitalised on the fall by going straight to the front. She led superbly."

If you are going to use ice as a raw material for a sculpture then you shouldn't be surprised when it ends up as a puddle, although admittedly such works of art should last a tad longer at the Winter Olympics. Team GB cross country skier Andrew Young has posted a picture on his Instagram account, external to show the melting ice sculptures in the village.

Let countdown commence for the semi-finals of the women's 500m, though let's not start whooping and hollering and causing a right carry on just yet because there's about five minutes to go until the first semi-final and Britain's Elise Christie doesn't set off until the second semi-final.

Skeleton controversy over. The Australian protest against Russia for using the push track is rejected by officials so the Russian sliders stay in the competition which means Lizzy Yarnold still leads by 0.44 seconds from Noelle Pikus-Pace, with Russia's Elena Nikitina third, 0.55 seconds adrift.

"It was a non-story," says BBC commentator and 2002 GB Olympic bobsleigh brakeman Colin Bryce. We'll be back tomorrow at 15:40 GMT for run three.

None of the three British men in the 1,000m heats made it through - Jack Whelbourne, despite his injury from Monday's 1,500m, came closest and was edged out on the line by Eddy Alvarez of the US. Richard Shoebridge and GB flagbearer Jon Eley were both off the pace by a distance come the end of their heats.

Now on the ice is Viktor Ahn of the hosts, Russia. Fascinating story - he won Olympic titles for South Korea in 2006 as Ahn Hyun-soo but has since changed his name and his nation to race for Russia here, having fallen out with the Korean team.

Justyna Kowalczyk removes her skis and raises them in the air. The Olympic champion completed the course in 28:17.8 to finish 18.4 seconds ahead of Charlotte Kalla, who secures her second silver of the Games. Norway's Therese Johaug won bronze.

British trio Jon Eley, Richard Shoebridge and Jack Whelbourne are eliminated from the short track 1000m which means Elise Christie is the last Brit standing.

The Scot will compete in the second semi-final at about 11:10 GMT and if she reaches the final you will have to down tools at about midday.

"I can do triples, I have got them," says James Woods before going on to admit he would not have been competing had it not been an Olympic final.

"In any other occasion I would not be near my skis and boots. Potential is something that can be great or can cut you deep. I cannot be unhappy with this - it is the world stage.

"Fifth in the Olympics, with four of my best mates in front of me, it is great."

"I am incredibly proud to be here," James Woods tells BBC Sport. "It is always a bit disappointing when you do not perform to your best, but it was an immense final.

"Joss Christensen is the nicest guy, so I could not be happier for him."

Dan Froud:, external Unlucky from James Woods! Such a talented freestyle skier.

Lorna Baker:, external A great fifth for James Woods. Slopestyle has been such a great addition to the Winter Olympics.

Martin O'Neill:, external I doff my cap to anyone who can fly through the air with the greatest of ease, especially with a dodgy hip like Woods!

Teenager Nicholas Goepper, back-to-back X Games gold medallist, had been labelled the man to beat ahead of the ski slopestyle final, but he was pushed into third by his compatriots Joss Christensen and Gus Kenworthy.

GB Slopestyle skier Katie Summerhayes tells me she is "so proud" of team-mate James Woods who finished fifth in the men's ski slopestyle final.

"He gave it everything he had and but for the injury (suffered in a training fall last week), he would have been up there on the podium.

"The standard has been insane today, possibly the best standard I have ever seen and definitely the most exciting. We want to use this first Olympics to get experience but we are all hoping 2018 will be our time."

Silver medallist Gus Kenworthy and bronze medallist Nicholas Goepper lift Olympic champion Joss Christensen in the air. The American could not improve on his first run score of 95.80, but even his second score of 93.80 was better than what any of his competitors achieved.
