"A stunning gold for Frenchman Pierre Vaultier at the end of a dramatic snowboard cross final which had the crowd on their feet!

"It wasn't the dream finish the home fans were hoping for as Russian Nikolay Olyunin had looked stunning throughout the qualification rounds, but his silver is impressive because no-one would have put him down as a contender a couple of hours ago.

"Bronze for Alex Diebold means the USA maintain their record of finishing on the podium at each Olympics the sport has featured in - dating back to 2006."

"Sweden will be a very difficult game for the boys to play. I'm impressed how they've finished today - their demeanour will be more positive and I think they'll take that into tomorrow.

"I think it's going to be a very close game; you have to believe that all the preparation and hard work will come in to play.

"We've had the extra game due to the tie-breaker; Sweden have been sat stewing for another day so maybe that will play into our hands."

"It was a real hard shot to play - I was thinking of getting the draw. It was a fantastically executed shot and fantastically swept. I was really surprised that Thomas Ulsrud threw such a heavy weight with his last shot; he gave us the opportunity to get back in the game. But Dave still had to play the shot to get the two and win the game."

"That's what the skip does, that's what he is there for, to play the big shots. There's jubilation all round, they're dancing in the stands. The Brits came in their numbers to support them. What a time to play your best game, to play your best shot."

Smiles and high-fives all round as David Murdoch and his team celebrate. Norway skip Thomas Ulsrud slumps against the wall and shakes his head. He played a good match, but a mistake with his final shot proved his undoing.

Great Britain will have two teams in the semi-finals as skip David Murdoch goes big and it pays off. He sends his final stone skating down the rink. It hits his own stone and that ricocheted onto the Norway stone lying shot which then slides out of the house. GB take two shots to seal the match and book their place in the semi-finals.

Skip David Murdoch has decided to go for the risky shot! Here we go...

  12. Curlingpublished at 07:44 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2014

There's a bit of hope for Great Britain, who call a timeout themselves before their last stone after Norway wipe out a GB stone as well as one of their own. That leaves the opportunity for a safe draw to take one shot and head into an extra end or go for the big one and try to take two shots by ricocheting off several stones. What will they do?

  13. Curlingpublished at 07:40 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2014

It's not going well for GB in the final end as David Murdoch's hopes of taking a two - and sealing the match by doing so - look over. Now the battle switches to getting just the one shot to keep this tie alive, but even that looks tricky. Could it all be over for GB? Just two stones left and Norway have called for a timeout.

"Slight delay to the small final - which will decide places 7-12 while the Italian Omar Visintin receives medical treatment. He took a big hit in the semi-final but is moving his arms which is a good sign.

"After he has been taken down the course on a stretcher, we'll be all set for the final two races of the day. Can Russia claim their sixth gold of the Games through Nikolay Olyunin?"

The tension is building inside the Ice Cube Curling Centre, as we approach the final stages of the final end of the play-off match between Norway and Great Britain. Norway are sitting with three shots in the house with five stones to play. Every stone crucial now.

"Great Britain will have the hammer in the 10th. There is just one shot in it. It couldn't be closer. It's all in their hands. If they get their two here, they are in the Olympic semi-final."

  18. Curlingpublished at 07:27 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2014

As expected, Norway take the single to drop a shot behind with just one end remaining but Great Britain will have the hammer in the final end.

That will give them the chance to try to take the two shots needed to win the match and progress to the semi-finals.

If they only take one, we're into an extra end, but Norway will have the advantage of the hammer. The first team to score wins.

If they don't score or lose further ground, they're obviously out.

Norway skip Thomas Ulsrud bangs the end of his broom on the ice after he fails to take two GB stones out as intended. That leaves Britain with two stones in the house and they make that three with just one stone to play. Norway will simply draw to take the single shot, but the important thing is that David Murdoch has limited them to just one.

"Well, I think we have been saved by a little gust which has swept the fog away from the course.

"It's still hanging around ominously close by and the halfpipe course - about 500m away - is hardly visible, but that's of no concern to the snowboard cross event which continues.

"The Russian fans are excited because their man Nikolay Olyunin has looked very impressive so far."
