If Eve Muirhead and David Murdoch lead the men's and women's teams to victory in their semi-finals, it will guarantee them a medal and would make these Winter Games Britain's most successful ever.

It would bring GB's total to at least four medals, matching the four won in Chamonix 1924. But Britain would have one gold, at least two silvers, and a bronze, topping the gold, silver and two bronze won in Chamonix.

Ever since she saw Rhona Martin win curling gold in 2002, Eve Muirhead has had her sights set on doing the same thing herself. She won three World Junior Championships before getting her first Olympic chance at 19 at the Vancouver Games in 2010.

The team failed to get out of the group stages, but when competing as Scotland, Muirhead led her rink to a dramatic last-stone victory against Sweden at the 2013 World Championships in Latvia.

As a talented scratch-handicap golfer, she was offered golf scholarships to several US universities, but turned them down to pursue her curling ambitions. "With golf, it's tough to make it to the top. I knew from a young age that I had good opportunities to do well in curling," said Muirhead, who is also an accomplished bagpipe player.
